Does anyone use sylvania silverstars as fog light replacements?
I know Hoen is the recommended brand, but Sylvania is avail locally and cheaper. Anyone replace their fogs with the Silverstars?

Fogs are standard H11 replacements.
You can get the Sliverstars on Amazon for under $16.00 each
Hoen similarly sells H11 replacements for about $30 each
Either will work, let us know what you do and how it turns out.

I have read spotty reviews on these. Some love them, some report failures. If you really want to try something like this go for the Sylvanias or the Hoens. There is no magic here.
Halogens are like regular tungsten incandescents, but the gas fill is higher pressure and with a halogen gas (krypton, argon, xenon, etc) are all halogens. They allow the filament to burn brighter (higher color temp) or longer (about twice as long) as regular incandescents. The tungsten filament vaporizes and redeposits back on the filament in the higher pressure halogen mixed capsule, rather than depositing on the sides of the glass capsule in a normal incandescent.

And you know your DRLs, running at something like 40% power will still look yellow, regardless of what bulb you put in there, right? Silverstars will only have their advertised color when you have them on as a highbeam, and not a DRL. All goes back to the previous discussion on how hot the filament is burning...not that hot, relatively speaking, to give you any more than the dull yellow color you have now with standard OEM halogen 9005 bulbs. Which of course is compounded by the fact that your brain adjusts the white balance to daylight, giving your DRLs that even more yellow color.

What he said. I have the Silverstar Ultras and they are yellow while in DRL mode. When in Highbeam mode they are brighter and whiter than the standard bulb. Not quite the HID effect, but much closer than stock.
