A diesel RL with the FMC?
I guess it's possible with this article

Can't wait to see what the Honda engineers come up with as a diesel solution. Hope it doesn't involve urea! I think I'm on this site too much.

Possibly. With the news of the Acura Japan launch being delayed by 2+ years, I would imagine a few things.
1. Acura RL is redesigned in '09/'10 and still in the 5Series/EClass arena. If that happens, diesel should be available as an option
2. Acura RL goes upstream to compete with the 7series/SClass in 2010. This would require longer wheelbase and bigger engine, no diesel.
I would hope a diesel is an option for the entire Acura line....its possible. Acura would sell double the amount of MDX's if they can get more fuel economy out that SUV.

I agree about Diesen gaining traction across the entire line. When you read an article like this one below, you get a sense that all this "battery" power hybrid technlogy is starting to loose its cachet. Besides, as we all know, batteries loose their efficiency over time. What's the longterm cost of this technlogy for the car owner. I never heard that discussed. It just seems to have too many unknowns for me to want to jump on

I agree that replacement battery cost could potentially offset the MPG gains. Also, do hybrids do all that well, efficiency-wise, in cold or hot weather?
When it's hot outside the engine needs to run for the A/C and when it's cold, the engine needs to run for heat, right?

I don't fully understand the Honda solution, but it seems, as usual, to be an elegant one.

They are already underway in Europe. A turbo diesel in the works.

I think that diesels are more proven. Hybrids impress me, but I wonder what the longterm maintenance situation will be. And for those who buy them on green impact fashion, I wonder what the impact of dead nickel hydride batteries will be when disposed of. As Hybrids increase in volume, they too can have a negative impact on green menality.
If a large diesel makes it to the Legen/RL, I'd buy one over a hybrid in a heartbeat. The torque alone would so change the progressive power build of the current engine. I wonder if at would adversely impact the AWD.
