C-002: DIY Oil Change with Pictures
#41
I drove 3k in about 5 months and oil life is at 50%. My guess is that at another 3 months, MID might notify me of 15 oil life. So the total would be 8 months and by mileage it could be 2k or less. If I use a better oil filter Mobile 1 Extended Perf or Purolator One, can I change filter every other oil change? On the same filter: 5k/8 months, then another 5k/8month. Anyone tried this?
In the UK the RL is sold as the Honda Legend, and the service interval is every 12 months or 9,000 miles - and this is low for the UK market where most modern cars have 24 month or 20,000 mile oil change intervals.
Not sure if the oil spec is slightly different though - Honda UK probably require fully synthetic oil when they set their service intervals, just like the German brands do.
Having said that, I would still follow the schedule that the car tells you - it's probably safe to go longer intervals if you use full synthetic oil (like Mobil 1), but if you do cause any long-term damage then you'll have zero comeback because you stretched the schedule.

That is true. I have been making my trip a bit longer by taking other routes. So most days of the week I go anywhere from 7-9 miles one way(highway/city mix). I think this should be enough for the engine to warm up. I replaced motor oil today at 50% oil life and made the switch to synthetic oil. Planning to keep it in for the rest of that 50% and then change it again.
