Buying an 06 RL next week. Any navi or hands-free issues I need to know about?
I've driven an 04 TL for the past few years and will be getting an 06 RL next week. The person I'm buying it from will be taking it into Acura for service and a maintenance check before I pick it up. I need to know if there are any navi or handsfree upgrades that need to be addressed while at the dealership. I know from past experience that they do not always tell you about free "fixes" unless they are safety related.
I bought my 04 TL from this same person I'm buying my RL from and found out on Autozine that the hands-free for the TL had issues and Acura would take care of it at no charge if you pushed them. My local Acura dealer wanted $600 to fix the problem and said it was too late to get the free fix. As a result, I was never able to use the handsfree phone feature on the TL.
With all this said, are there any updates or upgrades for the 2006 RL that I need to be made aware of before the service appointment next Wednesday?
Thanks,
Cariboo

would be good to try and get the latest Navi version 4.73, but doubt if you will get for free as it is a paid upgrade. You can do it yourself, upgrade is $179.
not aware of any hands free upgrades

Do they have yearly navi upgrade discs for the RL like they do on the TL's?
When is the lastest update available? I want to wait to get the most up to date disc.

I think the upgrades are about yearly. There were a few upgrade versions that had issues especially with the '05. The latest 4.73 was released not to long ago - maybe 3 or 4 months.

The biggest thing to know regarding the hands-free in the RL that's different from the TL is the "eject" command. In your TL, it controls the CD/Disc player.
In the RL, it controls the passenger seat security.

So, there are no issues with hands-free? With my 04 TL, the car didn't recognize my command when trying to dial numbers. There was an upgrade or fix that my local dealer wanted $600 to replace or repair something. I just want to make sure there is nothing that needs to be address by the dealership when the guy I'm buying it from takes it in to get it check for me on Wednesday. The guy that currently owns the car doesn't use the handsfree features so he can't say whether they work properly or not.

I went from the 2004 TL to a 2006 RL. The only issue with handsfree in the RL compared to my old TL is that it worked 100% better. The recognition software had apparently been tweaked between the time it came out in 2003 (when I bought my TL--I bought one of the first ones ever made) and the next year when the 2G RL was released.
So no worries.
