I think I would have to settle in my mind that I was going to buy a replacement. Once I'm at that decision, I'd try two things to fix the old one. If it screws up, then you have already made-up your mind to buy a new one.

1) Take a damp towel and apply a hot iron to the outside hoping the steam will get the bubbles to lay down.

2) Take a syringe with the finest needle and shoot glue into the bubbles and press down.

I think Acura gets stingy with glue for the inside treatment. My armrest bubbled and torn... bought a new one and within 3 months it has bubbles. This time (even though it won't have the double stitching), I'm going to a local shop.

I'm afraid the same crap will happen to my TSX, but at least I have a warranty to play with them.

I'd be happy if it were just bubbles. Started off like that but now you cant touch the glove box on a hot day(I live in the caribbean).

I finally got sick and tired of looking at my herpy looking glovebox and ordered a new one ($325 withshipping)It arrived Thursday and I had it replaced on Friday ($119 with tax at dealer) tottal price paid $444. Was it worth it? ABSOLUTELY!!!!

Actually MSRP for the part at my dealer was about $480 just for the part. So I actually saved a little. Here's the funny thing, my service manager refused to swap the glove box because I didn't buy it from them. Game me some speel about taking money away from his workers pocket and pension by buying parts online for a lower price. I told him to screw himself and drive 30 minutes to another dealer with better results :-)

 

Mine did same. Bought new glove box assembly at dealer, they reused old key and lock ~$450 installed if my memory serves me.

 

Until Acura decides to get their $&it together, I gues we will have to keep shelling out money for nonsense defects in our $50k plus vehicles. I love my Acura with a passion but I fell that Acura is dropping the ball on quality with its "flagship" vehicle. Broken hinges, bubbling glove box and arm rest, lose door handles plood instead of wood... The list goes on. I just think for a luxury vehicle, quality can be a little better.

 

Recently purchased a 2009 RL in December. A few months later I noticed bubbles on the top of the glove box. I thought it might be from the heat but there is no other area of the dash board affected. Any solution yet other than replacement. .?

 

Akazkml trust me when I tell you there is no other solution than to replace the glove box. I tried everything under the sun and came to the conclusion that replacement was the only option. You can try calling acura care they offered to cover half the cost of mine when I had it replaced. That was almost a year ago and I have not seen Any bubles since then. Hope this helps

 

I might feel the same way if I had your personal experience (I haven't, by any stretch). But as a group, '06-08 RL's have been singled out by Consumer Reports as tops in reliability among luxury sedans of their vintage. If you think '06-08 RL's are trouble-prone vehicles in this class, you should try owning German. Serial VW ownership is why I now own a Honda product.

 

I bought my wife a 2005 RL a few months ago and I am not having a bubbling problem but the vinyl on our RL's glove box is soft as bubblegum and marks/scratches very easy. Within 2 months of owning the car it a 3 new marks on the glove box. The glove box is so soft, if I press my finger nail in the glove box it will leave a permanent fingernail mark in the vinyl. If anything bumps it the is a new mark on the glove box. I am looking to replace my glove box also. It pisses me off to buy a luxury sedan and have the glove box so fragile and crappy looking.

 

I agree the glovebox is quite soft but at ~138K miles on my 05 RL my glovebox still looks brand new. The arm rests on the doors and on the center consle are all bubled up though. Will be looking to get those rewrapped soon.

 

less than 70k miles, i have bubble on my glove box. i'm sure the texas sun didn't help on my 08.

Mayflowerman - what type of shop did you use to repair center armrests - both of mine are bubbling and driver side arm rest....cost?

 

I purchased the replacement glove box and it's just waiting to go in. Got mine from DCH.

As soon as it came in I noticed that my arm rests on the center console aren't looking so hot.

Dear All - A couple of things 1) When you have a problem with your Acura, post it here, but also call Acura service to report it. That will help all of us out down the line. 2) Without this, this site appears to be not respected by Acura, I called today to also report the bubbling, blistering, "glove box acne" reported here on my 2008 Acura RL. First, the customer service rep. said he has not seen this problem reported and secondly, I was told that he could not believe a couple of posts on a "random website". There was no over the phone resolution and I was told that there was no appeals process and since my car was out of warranty there would be no Acura assistance with the $380 part... I have written an appeal but I have not heard anything back. Yet. I will keep you posted. @Toppatop, what was your resolution/result with Acura?

Hard to blame one rep.

They treated us all pretty much like a random website the last several years, when we told them unanimously to name the successor to this model the Legend and ditch the beak.

I wrote one of the heads of Honda North America, referencing in my letter the unanimity of opinion on this site, and got about the same amount of respect.

 

I am waiting for the 15 days to post the pictures for the group. As for now, when I go to the "advanced" section, there is no "Attach Files" option.

My 2007 looks the same as Hogczar's. I'm guessing it effects southern cars the most.

 

It might have something to do with the southern heat and humidity. Come to think of it, I live in Connecticut but my car came from Florida. Interesting twist.

 

Just pull it off and have it re-wrapped.

 

Small auto upholstery shop. I looked through their available materials and they had a near match. Drivers door arm rest is next. Don't like the idea of taking apart my drivers door but we have no choice. Things never seem to go back the same way when reassembled.

I like the idea of re-wrapping the glove box. Will need to see if they have a matching material.

my 05 CGP's black glovebox is doing this as well (Thanks, Texas heat). The material is super soft too, and one time a laundry basket bumped up against it and the impression is still there 6 months later!

 

I have the same issue, thus the reason I am also looking for a replacement black glove box. No excessive heat, etc. center console has stretched as well as drivers side arm rest. The rest of the 05 is awesome.

 

I have a 2005 rl and I noticed this a few years back but now it's gummy I live in a hot climate but my dash is in pristine shape my glove box on the other hand not so good it is a defect but it's not under warranty anymore so ... What to do I will attach pic if I can it looks terrible I was thinking of scraping it all off does anyone know what it looks like

 

I'm so angry Acura continues to ignore this issue. My glove box started bubbling a while ago...not it looks and feels like tar. Anytime a bag, clothes, or anything touches or bumps into it it is left with this lovely slime.

 

I think I have had every possible problem with this car. I am getting my Acura dealer to put together a grand total of $$$ spent on it. First and LAST Acura for me.

 

It may not be reported but my dealer said it happens over time due to simple wear and tear from the elbow, in my case.

I had it fixed for $200 with fine leather at a custom car upholstery shop. I found that shop by calling high-end car detailers and asking for a referral. Took less than 90 minutes. Now, my drivers side arm rest is showing the same wear, just a bit.

OEM center console replacement is $700 for the part. Not an option.
