Black or Chrome

What color is the 2006 exhaust tip stock? Black or Chrome? Ours looks painted black over chrome. The TL's all have chrome but I haven't seen another RL to notice what it is? I thought it might be carbon on it but when I looked, it looked like black trim paint and it is wearing thing in places with some kind of metallic finsih underneath. If it is black I will just spray it again, but if it is chrome I will clean it off. Also, there were some threads that the 05 tips caused black bumpers but the 06's all have newer style tips. Can anyone confirm this?

As far as I know, all 2G RLs left the factory with chrome tips and black insides. Did you buy the car second hand?

RLs, especially to '05s are notorious for getting black soot all over the exhaust tips. They should be chrome on the outside. Give them a good cleaning and polish them up.

I believe they extended the tailpipe a bit after '05 so the exhaust flows out better and away from the tips. A few folks here have mentioned replacing their '05 tips with '06 or newer.

What lland is referring to is an issue with 05's where there was excessive carbon buildup on the bumper, and the solution for the 05's was to install 06 exhaust finishers. There is an Acura ServiceNews article on this, and there may be a TSB.

Thanks everyone. My guess is someone sprayed it with flat black rather than polish it. We'll get to it tomorrow.

cleaned it up with a brillo pad and water - it looks really sharp now. Someone painted it black.
