Anyone tried Iridium Spark Plugs in their RL?

Has anyone in the group installed the new Iridium spark plugs in their RL.

I was reading the product description on the Denso and NGK web sites. Sounds promising, so was wondering if anyone has any experience with using them. They're not inexpensive, I was surprised to learn, they cost over $8 each at the best discount available -- list for something like $12. each

Better than the dealer, $24 each. I see they spec the OE Laser iridium.

Which ones were you looking at the iridium IX?

They won't make a big difference performance wise unless your old plugs are fairly beat up, in which case new plugs of any sort would show an improvement. The main advantage of the iridium plugs is longevity and resistance to fouling (which is not even close to an issue on a fuel injected computer operated chunk of technology like that living under the RL's hood).

If you've got some miles on the current plugs you can drop those iridium ones in and not have to think about it for 80k to 100k miles. That's what you're paying for.

Within Iridium plugs, there are long-life Iridiums and performance Iridium plugs. Your vehicle will come equipped with the long-life Iridiums, which will last at least 100,000 miles under most service conditions. The performance Iridiums will probably last about 60,000 miles, but may cost significantly less. The performance Iridiums may offer you slightly better performance, but I doubt it.

The long-life Iridiums have a platinum pad on the ground electrode, which will improve durability in waste spark applications.

Thanks guys for the input. Turns out I should have read the Acura service manual before posting -- the RL comes factory equipped with Iridium spark plugs.

Chas2, you are exactly right, the Acura price for the OEM Iridium plugs is $24. each. However, the exact same Denso OEM plug can be purchased from Rock Auto.com for $12. each. Worth keeping in mind for the future.

Factory installed Iridium spark plugs are one more example cutting edge engine components that Acura never mentions -- just installs them like routine.
