alarm going off issue
Good day,
While I was in San Diego, my wife sent me a message saying the FOBs were NOT working. She used the hard to unlock the doors, popped the ignition cover off and used the hard key to start the car. As soon as the car turned over, the alarm started to go off. When she turned the car off, the alarm stopped.
Now, what i noticed before my trip was that the passenger door handle would not go flush to the door after it was pulled on to open it. You had to push it to be flush. I feel I need to replace the handle but is there anyway I can bypass this alarm issue so i can drive it home and around until the handles arrive?
Thank you.

You could look for the alarm fuse. I have a feeling your handle fuse (#7) is already blown. Other options would be to unplug the horn or horn fuse, but your lights would still go crazy.

If it blows again, your handle(s) needs to be replaced. If it doesn't, then hope for the best.

That's what I was answering earlier. Look in the manual for the alarm fuse.

oo7spy - Do you think if I disconnect the passenger door handle electronics it will be fine?
What I don't understand is that both FOB's do nothing. No matter what button i push, there is no lights flashing. As soon as the key position (with the hard key) is set to the "on" position, the alarm starts blaring.
It is almost like the car thinks it is being broken in to (But I am using the hard key - this i dont understand)
Recap:
- Door handles lock/unlock stopped working months ago
- Check keyless active system indicator on (when the sensor is touched the car acknowledged it but does nothing)
- The FOB's worked up until Thursday
- Hardkey (from fob) is used to unlock the door
- Hardkey inserted into the ignition sets the alarm to go off when turned to the "on" position.
I am lost.

We have seen the issue here before possibly twice since I have been here. There were threads about it, but I can't remember the content or details of the fix. Both times, the owner drove straight to the dealer with the alarm going crazy.
There should be no issue disconnecting either handle. Did you check fuse 7? If it isn't blown, you may see what pulling it out changes.

oo7 - I did some deeper research and found this thread - his issue is the exact same as mine. The handle here in Ottawa Ontario Canada is $376 CDN - eeesh
"This morning 1/25, i head outside to run my errands for the day. i tried to unlock car with the remote, but with no luck, i then inserted the hard key into the door to unlock, which worked, i then tried to turn on the car, but with no luck. nothing would work, trunk button, nothing. i figured it was the battery, even tho i had one installed by Acura less than a year ago, (i went with the because of the warranty), i called AAA they came out in 30 mins, battery tested GOOD!, i then try and start car, nothing. AAA driver says it might be the starter. i then take the plastic knob off the ignition, i insert hard key and car turns on, but with the alarm going full blast , sound lights everything, i turn it off, i try again 5 more times and same thing. alarm goes off, i tell the driver i want my car towed to the dealership. he orders a tow truck to come, about 40 mins later truck comes and realizes that the RL is AWD. no doddies or flat bed, so i try car again, same problem. as i'am writing this i am waiting for a flat bed to come tow the car the Acura dealer.
Finally got an update and they concluded that it was the exterior right side door handle sensor had water contact and shorted the sensor....."

So my door handle finally arrived ($340/cdn)
My car is 35km away from my house - is there any way to drive the car home to replace the handle myself?
The only reason I ask is that it is supposed to be -29 degrees celcius tomorrow.
Also, is there a diagram on how to do it? I did search but got some not too helpful links.
Thanks folks!

You should be able to drive it with the alarm going. It won't be a fun 35 km, but it should be possible.
The first post here has a walk through of taking the interior panel off: https://acurazine.com/forums/second-...irrors-911689/
I also attached a TSB walk through to replace the outer handle cover.

If I pull the horn fuse will the horn still go off (as in does the alarm bypass the fuse) and is there a fuse to pull to stop the light flashing?

***update***
Well I wish I was happier....
I changed the door handle and I still get the "check keyless access system" and the touch lock/unlock do not work.
I had a blown "back up" fuse.
Car locks and unlocks with fob but again, still no touch activity.
I now have a "check emissions" message.....fantastic.

Sounds like your keyless access module.
The CEL is interesting and could point to a battery issue, but it seems unlikely.

oo7spy - another update --> The CEL light came off after about 1hr of driving - my thought is because the car was sitting for 1.5 weeks maybe there was a build-up of something that burnt off after driving around for a bit and running gas through it.
I think I will try to replace the Keyless Access Module (Is there a way to test it as being faulty?)
Also, that door handle was a pain in the butt to replace!

I think a dealer has to diagnose a KAM issue. There just aren't many other components in the system.
