6500+ km Trip

I finally convinced my wife to take a car trip vacation. We went to Marco Is, Florida from Ontario for 2wks and took the RL.

Day 1, left home at 6AM, took the I-79, I-77 and I-96 to Walterboro, SC. Even parked next to a white RL with Florida tags at the Comfort Suites. After 16 driving hrs (wife 3, me 13) I could have kept going. The RL really seems to come into itself on a nice long highway. Day 2, Walterboro to Marco with a stop in Winter Springs for lunch. Reached in-laws house at 5PM. 35hrs door to door.

Mileage. Have not seem these mpg numbers since I got the RL. I'm luck if I get 550kms on a tank during normal city driving. Was getting over 700kms on the trip.

Fun factor. Have to say I like the roads in SW Florida. Higher speed limits and surprising less traffic, even around Naples. We took Aligator Alley to Ft. Lauderdale for a day (Bugs!). More fun than having a rental.

Technical. I did have a service done the week before we left. The oil indicator went from 100% to 50% by the time we got back. Did get a scare two nights before we returned when it did'nt start on the first crank. Got up early the next morning and went to Germain Acura in Naples. Am I impressed. The Service Advisor took the RL in immediately. About 45mins later, he advised that the battery was showing Cold Cranking Amperage of 336 instead of 550. Then he proceeded to tell me that they have changed the battery out on warranty. Plus a vacuum and washed. All for a grand total of $0!!!

Minor bug. We stopped in Savannah on the way back and stayed at a hotel with only valet parking. The whole concept of disabling the trunk release with the switch in the glove box and giving the valet the fob without the key does not work. There is no hole for valets to put a tag on the fob. Has this been addressed in newer RLs?

All in all I have to say the RL is perfect for such trips. It's not too large to handle like a boat, but still provides oodles of comfort.

Got my wife convinced to do this again in April.

Thanks for sharing! Quite some driving you did. I'm from Chicago and thinking about the long trip. No wife convincing since just got divorced!

Driving is nicer then flying and I drive whenever possible. I too have found on all highway adventures my mileage increases drastically. My longest drive was 2am to 7PM and my wife slept. It was great

I never seem to get better then 25mpg highway though. On my TL we can get 30+

How much gas would you put in your tank to fill up after driving 700km?
