2012 RL Tech Purchase?

2012 RL Tech Purchase?
OK, just about ready to pull the trigger. Seriously impressed by the condition and performance.
My sole hesitation is it's out of warranty with 55K miles, clean Carfax that indicates regular service roughly every 7K miles.
Zurich all inclusive coverage is $4K to cover it 4yrs & 100K total miles

You don't need a warranty on that car. Vegas would never take those odds. Powertrain is valid until 70k.
If you hesitate, don't be surprised when someone grabs it out from underneath you. Less than 400 2012 were sold.

Uggghh, what a decision

I don't see a decision on the warranty side. (Admittedly, not my money.)
The tech in this car susceptible to failure won't even come close to $4k.

I agree with oo7spy 110%! Warranty on the RL is not worth it. Keep the cash and use it IF it ever needs any repairs. You'd have to have a lot of things go wrong to amount to $4k!

RLs are great; do it! The car is bulletproof I haven't had a single real issue with mine, and I have 36k on the clock. As long as the CarFax comes back clean with regular maintenance, you're all good. Buy it, now. But post some pictures when its hopefully yours!

Do it. I found a white/ebony '12 online, so tempting...

Any suggestions on an acceptable amount to pay for a Zurich all inclusive plan? According to Zurich I can purchase from any participating dealer but, not directly through Zurich.

$1000. Anything more is a waste of money, and you will be hoping your car breaks down.

if it still was under warranty with acura then you could have purchased the extended warranty from honda for 7 years/120,000 for about 1400 on a 2012 rl. So, it is save to say that the 2012 rl are very reliable. i would not pay 4000 for after market extended warranty.

Done Deal
Made a deposit yesterday, picking up Friday!
Still searching for a better deal on Zurich
There is a tremendous downside to this acquisition
Not for me, it will be my DWs DD AND I'm shopping for a 5-7 yo sedan for a college son.
She loved the 2010 TL so this should be a no-brainer. There is nothing like the SH-AWD!

I know I have given my more than once, but can you help me to understand the thinking behind buying extra warranty? To me, buying a warranty is like making a bet. Out of the gate, you are betting that your purchase will fail. Not only that, but you are betting that something bad enough will happen to cost more than your bet plus any deductible. With any bet or investment, you want to win or get more back than you put in, and the only way for that to happen is to hope your purchase fails. The warranty company is making the same bet in the other direction, and the house always wins out.
The part that I have a hard time wrapping my head around is wanting your ride to fail. Also, are there things the warranty doesn't cover? What if the car fails after a multi-thousand dollar warranty ends? If the car has known issues, it all makes sense, but otherwise, it is a bad bet and bad investment. (<--- Those are my last two. )

The sticking point for me to even consider an extended warranty is, it wasn't previously owned by ME! Whereby I'm absolutely certain of it's proper care since new, no shortcuts.
My V70 had 10 miles on it when I picked it up in June 2005, now has 118+K and looks like it did back then. Fairly fanatical about maintenance, tie rods, timing belt, water pump. The only surprise was a bad cat last year!
Take care of your car, it'll take care of you, as with most things!
300HP? LOL, yeah, my DW loves to zoom. Can you BELIEVE friggin' cop gave her a speeding ticket a few years ago ON HER BIRTHDAY???
Now! Up front, lest you believe I'm completely altruistic...I've still got my eye on the RLXh in a year or two...

Forgot to ask,
Synthetic or regular oil? I've always used regular every 3-4K miles, never believed the cost/benefit of synthetic
Rear back-up sensors beep or what? Seems redundant with the camera

All quite logical and I don't entirely disagree. If it were $1400 it would be a done deal, $4 Large, not so much...

I have my eye on the rlxh and test drove. I even asked the price on it and was offered a great deal but i don't believe in paying over 50,000 a car. They dont bring that kind of joy.

Did you look at the carfax on the car? The carfax will mostly list the maintenance that was completed on the car.

Disappointing update...delayed pick up.
Couldn't find title on trade and strongly suspect it was never sent to us by dealer, who handled the Accord purchase & registration. Apparently, in NYS even a lien'd title is sent to the owner
Will know tomorrow, otherwise have to order a duplicate which takes 5-7 B days!
Damn

It's quite difficult, maybe impossible, to quantify what I expected?
50 mile drive home today and it is one sweet ride, power to spare with no hesitation, road ruts are perceptible but, not harsh or teeth shattering, quiet interior, doors "thunk" not ping. DW likes the look and seats, disappointed with lack of push-button start.

I still don't understand that complaint. I think the keyless knob is superior to the button because it is intuitive. What is the real difference though?
#28
I like it, too. Enough buttons! I once shut the Accord off, instead of the radio!
I think she got used to it in the MB, TL and then the Accord. It wasn't a deal killer. She likes the RL...alot.
If I posted the deal I got, no one would believe me! I MADE money!
BTW, no extended warranty although, if I got offered Zurich under $2K for 4/48, I'd probably bite

The photo isn't too large for the page (AZ resizes big photos), but the car looks a little too big for the picture.

Segue:
The 6 speed in the RL is seamless while the Accord was stuttering always looking for the right gear

Could you at least entertain us why saying a price is so taboo?

No shit. You could turn around, sell it, and make even more money. That's crazy.

This was about a gem of a car, the condition and the documented care. Even my DW noticed the absence of any curb rash on the wheels!
Gotta dig up some all weather mats, trunk tray, splash guards, wheel locks & rejoin XM radio.

Also, do you mind sharing your full two cents, on the 2012 RL vs. 2013 Accord Touring? I would love hearing what you have to say!

Compare the RL to the Touring? Hmmm? Gotta give it some thought and I'm not enough of a car guy to know all the appropriate terminology.
Initial impression, the RL is SOLID, doors closing, steadfast with bumps in the road, bank vault, Touring tinny, doors, trunk, feel every bump in the road, sometimes cringeworthy(& I had 18" tires/wheels), V6 was peppy but, 6speed constantly searching for gears.
Don't get me wrong, the Touring is a good, likable car HOWEVER, when my DW told me a couple months back she wasn't CRAZY about it, especially the tranny, I SEIZED the opportunity. I had tested an '09/'10 RL when we got the TL, just felt north of $50K was too high compared to the TL SH-AWD Tech and I didn't see any reasonably priced RLs when we bought the Touring 2 years ago.
The RL has always been on my radar.
When I first got the numbers from the dealer, price, trade, TTL, etc it was almost impossible to keep a "poker face"! I honestly thought they'd made an error that would later be revealed so I requested a purchase order.
I had a couple friends review that, checked CarFax AND AutoCheck, I even contacted the dealer where it was sold and serviced the past 3 years!
You know what they say about a deal being "too good to be true"!
In the final bit of serendipity after everything is complete and we have the pick up scheduled?
Oh yeah, honey I forgot to mention this sales managers name is familiar, Vito Corleone. Really? Maybe it's my cousin? Yep!
Now the RLXh is the next car on my list in 1-3 years but, only to replace my V70.
