2009 M35x vs. 2008/2009 Acura RL
Hello Gents, Ladies,
Excuse me if this is a repeated post. However, I've been toying with the idea to flea to Infiniti for the M35x model. AS Acura's 09' Model just isn't up to par IMHO. Just don't like the looks nearly as much as the 08' RL.
Well, please chime in and offer advantages, disadvantages of either model vs. the other. Not in the market for a change. I'm just starting to peak around a little and have an itch that needs to be scratched or put to rest.
Thanks to all opinions in advance.

They are very similar cars feature wise, comparable power as well.
The main deal braker for me was the lack of an all wheel drive system that changes power side to side.
As far as looks, give me a month and I will show you something to drool about.

You must be gonna trade it in, because the power plenum & hood that does not line up is beyond help.

I'm thinking that the M35 has a heavier ride to it. Maybe more european appeal............??? I am only going off of what one of my best friends who owns one is telling me. He has had both and says that the M35 is a better car as for the ride and interior.
I have no idea. Thats why I am asking. I still think that the RL has more body appeal than the M35. Something about the body of the M just doesn't strike me the same as the RL. ??????????????

I would if he were anywhere close to me............LOL. He's too far away! So, before I go into a dealer and test drive one (and make either a good or bad decision) I figured I'd ask some people here on the board what their impressions of both cars are. I wish I could drive his car.

I watched the bottom video, never realized LS430 is that slow! Gotta find me one of those and smoke it. As far as Infiniti, M45 is listed at 335hp for 2006, WEAK! 2009 is at 325hp...oh well. Maybe Sport is worth another 5hp?

Actually just coming from an Infiniti i dunno bout that switch, this is of course off my own personal experience but its not uncommon in the cars so it seems. I myself had an Infiniti G35 Coupe and my cousin a FX45 SUV, i know without a shadow of a doubt that door lock acuators and window regulators are a real PITA. Get familiar with having to deal with this issue. When i purchased my G both regulators and motors for my windows were just changed as the seller of the car provided me with a receipt. Within 5 months of the life on these NEW motors my passenger went out AGAIN. And my door lock acuators especially the passenger side door loved to stop working from time to time. My cousin had the same issue door actuator that needed to be replaced within 6 months of owning the car and 1 of the 4 windows needed a new motor as well. Looking at the forums for the cars its one of the most common issues with the car. I know if you buy a new one you will have warranty and ladida.. but who wants to continually take their care in for the hassle.
I dropped the G and got myself into a 2005 RL and so far so good but we will see. I dont think ill ever go back to Infiniti after that experience as even friends with 350Z's have the same issues as well.
Good luck in your buy either way but im not a fan of lame problems like the one i mentioned above so at least somebody told you before you bought.

Every make and model has issues, we all know that the amount of gadgets and technologies in these cars is almost at ridiculous levels. That said, the Infiniti and Acura are both leaders in quality, but once again there will be problems with each and every model. Remember the older TLs with trannys? You say Infiniti's have problems with lock actuators and window regulators. I have a BMW thats been through window regulators. Thats the way things go.
I agree, its a pain in the butt....but my point is that every make and model is not perfect. Lexus gets it close....but the Acura and Infiniti do some cool things the Lexus can't.
That said, and this might sound stupid, but I'm not a big fan of the flat-finished wood in the M35. It looks cheap. I'd really like to see Infiniti put some gloss on that trim to make it look nice.
Just my

That's a tough choice.
They're both terrific, and similar in so many ways.
You have to expect a certain amount of Infiniti-trashing on an Acura board. Personally, I think the M is gorgeous, inside and out. It also has considerably more room than the RL, front and back.
If I were looking at an RL, it would be an '08 -- for exactly that reason. I can't stand looking at the '09, despite its functional improvements (degraded gas mileage being not one of them).
For me, the one potential deal-breaker with the M35 is the ridiculous gearing on the AWD "x" version. The RWD car has a 7-speed now, but the M35x still revs at nearly 3000 RPM when cruising at 70. Combined with the tire rumble and boy-racer exhaust, that's what I consider an intolerable amount of intrusion for a luxury car.

just noticed there is a tongue in the beak on the rl
well i dun ave experience on both cars, but i guess generally acura/honda is more reliable than infiniti/nissan, i had a g35 coupe the power window motor had been fixed 2 times, and my 350z coupe, replaced driver side window motor once becoz when i press auto up, the window closed and reopened itself 4 inches, then i had a 350z convertible, that time the power window motor, again, blown, and the convertible opened fully with 3+ tries every time.
happy with my tsx now

I blame the SH-AWD for the mileage.

According to Infiniti's web site the M35 uses a 7-speed tranny.
M35x/M45/M45x all still use a 5 speed.
Fuel Economy
M35 17/25
M35x 16/22
M45 16/21
M45x 14/20
According to the Acura website the RL's fuel economy is 16/22, identical to the M35x. So the RL (with a larger engine) gets the same mileage as the M35.
M35x/M45/M45x all still use a 5 speed.

Yeah, I agree. The interior on the M is next to the RLs interior.. That Infiniti is pretty boring in my opinion and I would get sick and tired of the interior after a few weeks. I'd be like...
"Shit. I hate getting into this interior.. and I hate looking at the inside of my car, especially during the day. And I also hate using my NAV display and the buttons are angled so stupid. I hate my car. The only thing that's cool are my tail lights, dammit".

"Old" regulars here will recall that I heavily cross-shopped the M35x (I still prefer to call it the Fuga, it's JDM designation) and the RL. I like the exteriors for both, and felt the buttons on the console of the M were a bit of a reach. Ultimately, though, what decided me in favor of the RL was the deal. 2 1/2 years later, I'm not in the least sorry about my choice.
