.....I'm more and more convinced that the new RL will look better on the street and in person.

The Edmunds video states the new RL has 'sportier, cleaner styling'...

sportier, maybe.

cleaner??? This guy must have a family member in Pasadena working at the design studio. It WAS a clean style. How does adding every styling cliche on the road and creating so many surface angles to every body panel make it cleaner?

Less is more, and cleaner.

I was wondering how long it was going to take for someone to comment on that.

Even as someone who likes the refresh (for the most part), I chuckled a bit when I heard that comment.

Almost as bad was the comment in the second video about the car getting some "much needed pizazz" to help move it off the dealers' lots at a faster rate. Please.

Every day, the likelihood of me buying another Acura drops. Between the RL refresh disaster, the PAX tire fiasco, the extended warranty BS, and this latest piece of news about dealer allocations from the other threads - it's just too much crap. This company has lost its way. Screw Acura.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But everyone needs to calm down. My wife drives an RX330 and we go through some of the same problems when we go to Lexus like warranty issues, waiting on a loaner, poor customer servce at times ect. ect. Is it like this all the time at Acura or Lexus? No, but my point is that these issues arise at other car companies other than Acura. The grass always looks greener...you know the rest. And as for the video I agree with the guy in the video. Some of Acura owners have to realize in their own little eccentric communities that they are not the masses. Honda/Acura is in business to build a quality automoble (which I think they already do) and give the world designs that will appeal to the masses. Will everyone like it no. But I think you will probally see change until they feel that their sales numbers are where they want them to be. That's the nature of business. I don't make the rules and neither does Acura.

Edmunds employees boggle my mind. They are almost ALWAYS the total opposite of what I think is logical. A car I think looks good, they say is bland or whatever. A car they think looks good I think is fugly. It's like they are in some bizarro world...

Logically this car should sell worse than the current gen but since I apparently have no clue what humans think, it'll prolly sell better.

When I watched the video, all I could think (in relation to the grille) was:

"TRANSFORMERS, MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE..."

It is just hideous in the RL application - too big, too high, and out of place.

Surprisingly the car looked better in the video than in pictures. When the 5-series and 7-series first came out, I thought they were so FUGLY. Now I like them. Same goes for the new Accord sedan. I catch myself breaking my neck while I'm driving to get a better look. Those cars all have that similar, I guess, Bengal design. Very muscular looking.

The RL's problem was that it was a very poor seller and I just don't see it picking up sales. If it were a stellar seller or head and shoulders above the competition in driving dynamics then okay but it's not going to do well.

I have to agree, it does not look as bad in the videos. I wonder why? It definitely looks better in darker colors.

Well, at least they'll have 1 sale.

For me, it just gets worse.

You know, part of me is hoping that most people hate the RL so that I am able to get a great deal on one. Aside from the drop in highway fuel economy, all the mechanical changes/revisions sound like good ones. I can't wait to drive it.

Hey, I'll test drive one when it appears on the dealer lot. I'll test drive anything once.

I think I would test drive one as well, just to see how it handles. I am eager to see if Acura actually is paying enough attention to what is being said about the front end, that they might get it changed in time for the release. Guess only time will tell.

I'm not overly impressed. I was hoping for more than 10hp increase over the current RL. I wonder what the dealer would say if I drove in my 2005 and said I want this exhaust, rims and CAI in the new 2009.....

Horsepower doesn't affect everyday driving. It's torque that matters. Horsepower is for top speed. You'll notice the increased torque at lower RPM and that's what gives a car it's feel. I would bet that the 09 feels much faster than the 05-08 even though it's only 10hp more.

The horsepower trend, driven by marketing, is making manufactures tune engines for horsepower (thus high top speed) with lower torque and therefore, less responsive acceleration.

I commend Acura for making this engine more responsive and less worried about the horsepower number. Although, if they were to tune it for 330 horsepower and less torque, it would probably sell more even though it would FEEL less powerful.

A catch-22.

An astute point, one I've also made a few times when people have knocked the "only" 300 hp of the new engine.

All bets are off until the first dyno, however....I want to see a nice flat torque curve like on the current RL, with maybe a little more at the low end.
