2005 RL service question
Hello...
My 2005 RL is approaching 100,000km (in Canada). The going rate for the timing belt is $1000 plus taxes. Wondering what the costs are in the US as a drive down the east coast might be a better option? Thank you in advance

The cost here is relatively the same. I had the service done and paid about that. Reason being is the RL actually has 2 timing belts and the labor hours are what get you to the $1K price tag...

So in Canada, you have to change at 100K km, and in the US we have to change at 105K miles???!!!
To my knowledge, J Series engines only have one timing belt

Traditionally, the expense is mostly labor in taking it apart. I also understood that the timing belt powers the water pump, so you usually change that while you have the thing apart. I have been told, water pumps will last you 150K miles, but probably not 200+K miles, and the cost is cheap compared to the labor.
I have never had a J series belt changed, but have had plenty of C series belts changed in 1G and 2G Legends (I skipped the 1G RL, which was also a C series engine)

The first time around I did just what was recommended for the T belt on my 97 RL at 90K which always includes a water pump. I also change out the power belts as a safety precaution. At 180K, I did the same change out, but I also changed out the radiator hoses. Just pay the piper and let those that know how, do it best.
