'08 RL Not on List of Safest Cars
Just read that the RL did not make the list as one of safest cars for '08. The MDX and RDX did. No explanation from Acura as to why the RL did not make it. Doesn't make any sense since the '07 RL and Lincoln Town Car were recently named the safest cars in the US. Go figure. Here is info from Acura: http://www.hondanews.com/categories/1097/releases/4363

The institute still lists the 2005-2008 RL with top marks....
http://www.iihs.org/ratings/rating.aspx?id=239
Likely this list was for models not previously tested in their current body style or newly introduced models (i.e. the Accord).
It would be clearer if they stated 'in addition to' current models already tested as G (good) we now add....'
But how much intelligence can you expect in a single day?

What do you expect? The institute works with dummies every day in crash tests. Intelligence must have rubbed off on those workers.

The article I read listed both the TL and the RL, but not in the top. The headrests were cited as not doing an adquate job to prevent head injuries, hence keeping these models from being "top listed."

The RL is not listed in the Top pick of the IIHS because it doesn't have active head restraints, thus it can not ace that test. Otherwise the RL is probably one of the safest if not the safest car on the road.
