05 RL burning 1qt+ of oil every 200 miles
Bought the car with about 167k miles on it and didn't have any issues with it. Didn't burn a single drop of oil as I know of. Now the car has about 176k and is burning a ton of oil. I'll know the oil is low because when vtec should engage at 5k rpm it stutters and won't go into vtec.
I believe its the valve stem seals. There's no leaks on the engine whatsoever and when I start the car and it's idling lots of blue smoke comes out for about 5 seconds then goes away.
My questions are what else could it be other than valve stem seals? And my main question is if it is indeed the valve stem seals, would it be a better choice to do a complete head swap or go in and replace each valve seal? I've done some research on swapping the 3.2 heads from the j32, however I'd probably make another thread about that.
Any help would be appreciated

i think your right at valve seals.
could be as simple as sludge blocking oil drain ports and oil is pooling around the seals, remove cover and inspect
also check PCV, make sure its venting, higher pressure could be forcing oil into combustion chamber
then theres worn rings, do compression test, then wet compression test
but like i said i think your correct at valve seals.

Good chance the rings are stuck. I had an integra where the rings became stuck after changing oils, and oil literally just flowed through the motor. I had a small shop change the rings and it was fine aftwards, no issues with the valves.

Typically valve stem seals manifest this way (at least in my experience seeing it fail with others, I could be wrong):
-Car sits overnight
-Starts in the morning to a cloud of blue smoke
-Not much smoke occurs during the rest of the day (but car will still burn oil)
-Repeat cycle next morning
Is that what's happening?
