05 Replacement Key Fob Case

The plastic "chrome" buttons on my key fob are wearing off. Any ideas as to where I can purchase the front of the case? (I'm assuming the buttons are attached to the front case). Also while I'm thinking of it, does anyone have any recomendations on the care and feeding of my wood trim on the dash? I have some very minor scratches visible when the sun hits it at just the right angle. I'm thinking that a paste wax would work well, but I don't want to take a chance, as damaging that piece of lumber would prevent me from sending my first born to college!

The "chrome" buttons are actually little inserts that sit over the buttons when the case comes off. When I first took possession of my RL, I switched the new-looking inserts from the 2nd key fob to the 1st key fob. Within a few months they started looking like shit again. It's up to you if you want to change them out, but you may be able to find the little inserts versus the whole case.

Thanks for the tip tnobori1. If anyone has any leads on these parts, buttons, or a old defective fob that I can cannabilize, please let me know.

Do you actually use the buttons on the FOB? I put it in my pocket and never touch the buttons since touching handle locks/unlocks car and trunk opens to touch as well.

They (the buttons) come up on eBay once in a while but the price is typically around $35.00. Too much for me to make something that just sits in my pocket look better.

You're welcome! I checked eBay but couldn't find them. I also checked a few online Acura dealerships and could not find the part number for you. Good luck! Maybe consider painting them or something. Let us know what you do.

When i took possession of my 05 RL, my remote buttons and casing were worn out as well.
I just bought a new fob from ebay and switched out the internals of mine to the new and sold my worn out one on ebay for less. Forget how much I paid and sold for though.

There's a #2 for sell now for $50.

I'm in the same boat. Noticed that they are inserts, so painting them is an option rather than spending $30+ dollars for a donor. If they were available for $5-$10 I would consider it, but the new ones are going to beat up anyway. I also do not carry any other items like coins, keys, etc in the "fob pocket". So they are obviously easily scratched.

$30 buys a lot of chrome spray, if you can deal with losing the black icons.

What year is your RL? My 06 trunk has a button to push, no opening to the touch.

05RL - Just grab trunk area above license plate and open without pressing FOB
Are you sure yours doesn't have this?

I don't have to push FOB, but there is a little button there than must be pushed. It doesn't just open like the doors ...

Is the button visible?
On mine, there's a sort of button underneath where you grab the trunk to open if that is what you are talking about. In that sense, it is not exactly like the doors

wow had no idea these things were so dang expensive. I need a new one b/c the key doesn't fully "lock" into place and easily slides out of the FOB. looked around and saw the dealership quoted some people $500 for one, while eBay is still $100 for one. Thought this thing would be closer to $30-50. gonna have to really think if this is worth it now at all.
