05 with 128k

I'm thinking about buying a 05 rl that has 128k on it.

What should I check to be fairly sure the car is in decent operating condition?

BTW, owner is asking $14,500. Is this a good deal (assuming car is in OK condition)?

Make sure the timing belt was changed at 105K. The first major service is 105K and it is a major one!

I have no idea about the price, but there must be others with lower mileage???

An '05 with under 50K miles is selling at wholesale (auction) for around $16-18K. That price seems a bit high for a car w/ twice the miles.

I have a 07 with 108,000 trouble free and enjoyable miles. At 105,000 miles, I had an Acura dealer do the timing belt (all belts & water pump replacement), spark plugs and valves adjusted. It was about $1200 but it will go for another 105,000 miles. If those have been done and you can verify the routine maintenance is up to date(oil, differential, transmission fluids changed etc..) and body and interior are in good shape and never been wrecked, get it, you will love it!!!

I would really recommend against it. 128k miles? a single electronic problem can probably cost you quadruple digits to fix. and yeah, you can find a wholesale auction for alot less miles for around 18k. Talk to small-time dealers, they normally are willing to bid it for you (with their dealer license) for a small fee.. like 500$.

I think it's too expensive. Unless it's a one owner in mint condition and has all maintenance records that were done on time..even then I'd need to knock off some $.

Wow. I just checked Manheim auction transaction on RL's and I can't believe the prices I'm seeing.

What color is it?

Down to $9500 with less miles than OP is talking about. Obviously we are talking about wholesale prices with no way of knowing the condition, maintenance history, etc. but still. Anything over 100K miles is under $12K.

I guess I'm just surprised how low it is.

Agreed; the values have plummeted - but that is nothing new with lux/higher priced cars.

Its interesting how much better a TSX or TL will hold value.
