17" Winter Tires on 2018 RDX

Just bought a 2018 RDX Tech. Stock Michelin all-seasons are 235/60/18. Can I use my old 235/65/17 winter tires provided I put them on properly fitted rims? I see alot of conflicting information out there.
Also, am I better off with good-old steel rims or winter alloys?
Thanks

I currently run 235/65/17 winter tires on my RDX with no problems, cheaper and lighter than the 18". I have used both steel and winter alloys. The steel wheels have rusted on me in a couple of years due the excessive salt used in my area. The winter alloys have held up much better and are worth the extra cost for me.
