Windshield crack
With all of the cold weather we've been having on the East Coast the past few weeks, i recently notices a large crack forming on the driver's side of my windsheld. Was wondering if this is something that could be repaired, or do I really need to replace it?
Thanks

A pro can often hide small chips, but there is no way I know of to repair a crack in glass. My guess is that it will keep getting worse.
Check with your insurance company - mine covers glass 100% with no deductible.

replace it, you must have caught a rock and not seen it. Glass is typically provided as part of comprehensive coverage

Depends where you are re: glass coverage. In Alberta, glass is not part of standard comprehensive package. At least not with my current provider. I've never bothered with coverage because from what I learned from talking with various insurers, the annual premium cost + relatively high deductible aren't worth having coverage.
Our RDX recently took a chip on the highway, center of the windshield and about 1 inch from the bottom. My wife quickly got it fixed/filled, but driving around the other night in -20C we heard a loud THUNK and saw that the chip had cracked nearly all the way to either side. I guess chip repair doesn't guarantee crack prevention.
A couple years ago I had a new windshield installed in my 07 Murano (chinese glass, not OEM) and it was roughly $250 from a local shop (not a Nissan dealer). Our recent quote for new RDX glass was north of $500. The guy's excuse was that it's a newer model, so not as many options for sourcing and blah blah. Not sure if he's BS-ing but we're gonna wait til the winter aka gravel season is over before making a repair decision.
