Braking issues

I drive the FWD non tech. Recently at a highway intersection had to brake really hard to avoid a pile up .. noticed that brakes are not designed to stop when you apply immediate pressure like an ABS should. Also now I notice that the brakes will make a groaning sound when applying hard for a quick stop. Anyone notice unusual sounds from their brakes?

the groan is the ABS system. The abs will allow the vehicle to brake as hard as possible without lockup so you can steer, there's also a brake force multiplier device at work that activates under situations like this. Some people stab the brakes hard then let up a bit...the brake force multiplier keeps the pressure as hard as possible until it gets a positive signal (you actually lift your foot) that you intend to discontinue the braking action.

Sounds to me like this all worked as intended by acura and you got a vehicle reaction you weren't expecting.
