Hey man, how have you been?
Honestly it has been an absolute pain in the ass and I cannot tell you how much I miss my RDX. I bought a 2008 X5 4.8i a month ago that started smoking the day I brought it home, thankfully the previous owner took it back but kept $500 only 2 days after I bought it. I almost bought a 2012 kia sorento sx in snow white pearl, but dealer tried doing a bait and switch on me so I walked out on it. Drove 3 hours to a family wedding and again intended on picking up a Sorento in their city only to find it was a POS in person. And I swear to you if a car is sitting on the market for months, the second I have a sliver of interest, IT SELLS. It is so frustrating.
So where does that leave me? If I can find a damn sorento in the trim I want, I will take it (for whatever reason the ex-luxury and SX trim sold in very few numbers). If I can find 2G MDX with reasonable miles and the owner isn't on crack (the pricing on these things in the used market is simply attrocious). I mean timing belts still needing to be done, electro shocks gone, broken wind shields, needing tires and brakes, 100-200k miles!!! AND STILL asking $11k-$20k....
Because of my experience with the X5, I want to stay away from the ML. I know not related, but both German and have left a sour taste in my mouth. Otherwise there is an INCREDIBLY rare 2008 touareg V8 fully fully decked out with 75k miles for only $15k. Like it has everything I want right down to the saddle leather interior. But because of what happened with the X5, I don't want to deal with the stress of a German vehicle again. But beleive me, if this touareg came up a month ago, I would be in it today. This is why I haven't updated my thread in the 1G rdx section yet like I said I would.
Sorry for the rant and off topic OP.

NICE!!! I think Acura did a pretty good job with the RDX MMC inside and out. The Elite/Adv version would be my first choice if I needed to upgrade my current 08 RDX.

Wow, that sounds crazy alright. Believe me, I knock on wood every day regarding my ML. So far so good (although the rear brakes are going to cost a whopping $800 to have done). I'm not sure about the Sorento but I have always wanted a 2nd gen MDX. The prices are pretty reasonable where I live. I can usually find one with about the same mileage and price as the Touareg you mentioned. I think they must be more rare in Canada thus the premium price. Good luck in your search, let us know when you finally find something!

I like the sorento because it is a tremendous value, like I can get a 2011-2012 model with awd, heated steering wheel, heated seats, panoramic sunroof, push button start, navi, cooled seats...etc for $10-15k. Whereas anything else with that level of tech and year is easily in the high 20's to 30's! But I have had a soft spot for the 2G mdx since forever. I actually love the exteriror looks as well. Combined with the reliability and drivetrain, there is really a lot to love.
Finding an mdx with that mileage for that price is EXTREMELY rare. Like almost never. And actually the 2G mdx is incredibly common here. Tons in my neighborhood and I see tons of them on the road. But there are few for sale due to their immense popularity.
Thanks for asking man. I will update you guys when I finally get something. By the way, that Touareg sold after one day. That is how rare it is and of course a sliver of interest and it sold.

The Touaregs are very decent cars although the '08 was the first year, wasn't it, so it might have a few issues. Visit VWVortex for more info on the '08's, but from a maintenance standpoint, they aren't bad at all and drive great. They are also great off-roaders. I'm contemplating one now because they are so cheap and a hell of a lot cheaper than the Land Cruiser I was looking at.
But when it comes to mainenance and reliability. They are absolutely one of the worst cars in the world. I had 3. 2 2004's and one 2006. That last 2006 one I spent $4k on it in 2 months and sold it when I had an $8k bill due. If you really do want one, PM me and I can explain some of the common issues and what to he careful of.
Just keep in mind they are based on the porsche cayenne platform and have porsche cayenne running costs.

did some 'emblem dipping'....I usually remove the emblems and then dip them...but didn't want to bother with that so I left them and masked up the whole car. (the 2016 civic is getting done tomorrow)..
pondering dip ideas for the front grill... still not sure how to approach it.

I want good quality ones so I don't mind paying a bit extra. Are yours 1/18 or 1/24 scale? I have had 5 cars so far, so looks like I will need to buy one every few months haha to push them apart. If I had 3 of the same car in different colors, should I get all 3 or just one car for all 3, I don't know?
#24
^^^ these are all 1:18 scale.. they are huge and heavy...

^^ no worries. fyi, I am selling my 2013 RDX 1:18 model. since I have the 2017 now lol.
tomorrows project is something different... I will be dipping the black bottom sides and the black bottom along the rear with white dip/pearlizer. it 'should' match up pretty decently... its' an experiment to see how it would look all white along the bottom.
I've already started prepping my set of winter wheels by dipping them black with gloss:
then, on weekend..i'll be dipping the main plenum shield black with gloss. (as in the attached photo)

I love that you are so open to experimenting with different products and dips..etc. It is really nice to see someone willing to take chances. One note, you may want to use dish soap on the lower black parts to remove some of the separation promoter they spray on the molds in the factory to make the part. Or else the dip may not attach so well.
Oh and do the wheels like we talked about earlier with leaving the L-spokes silver. It will look so bad ass.

Looking good but you should have dipped both inner spokes black rather than antharcite. But still that's a tricky plastidip job so well done. I swore off of plastidip after removing mine off my rims the other day.

Yah I was thinking black also but the inner portion of the wheel is so damn complex lol. However I may attempt it on another wheel today. Stay tuned.

I really like how willing you are to test things out (speaking of which, did you ever end up dipping the lower sides white?)! I agree that is a VERY complex wheel to try and dip especially with all those lines and angles and thin and thick spokes. I think you need to tape it off like you did before and simply expose the other inner spoke. I'm excited to see how it turns out!
