What is the lifespan of remote key battery?

I have the RDX for almost a year and I think the remote key shows signs of a dead battery. Is it normal?
I had my Camry for 11 years and I used the same key all the time, no need to replace the battery.
I understand that RDX checks the chip more often, but only one year is a short life I reckon

My dealer recommends replacing the battery yearly to avoid problems but mine have lasted 23 months so far. It all depend on how much you use them. The keyless fobs are tougher on the batteries than standard fobs.

Does anyone know what size battery the non-nav RDX key fob uses?

It might be worth having a spare around.

Thanks in advance.

The battery should last a year or so. At $3 for the battery it costs less than a penny a day. You're right, that is unacceptable.

Not sure about non-nav, but on my 2013 Tech it's a CR 2032. It's easy enough to check by opening the fob.

Keyfob batteries generally give you advance notice of failure. First you'll notice a decrease in range when unlocking remotely. With fobless entry, you'll notice that it doesn't always work in your pocket - but works when you remove it and hold it in your hand.

Given that I've had batteries go bad in a half year and some that work for 5 or more years, having a spare around seems a bit overkill. By the time you need it, the "new" battery might be dead and they are available in most every drug store or grocery.

Had mine since 2002 and still functions fine, no new battery needed yet.

I've notice with the fob on all three vehicles seem to lose range over time. Even after replacing the battery, the range decrease seems to stay. I just replaced my Driver1 FOB on my MDX because it took up to 3 clicks to engage sometimes. It was replaced under warranty. I would double-check to see if the problems you are having is just one fob or both.

My cl type s is 14 years old and I have replaced the keyfob battery once on the primary remote during the time I have had the car.... I got the car when it was 3.5 years old. I have yet to change the one on the secondary. Acura used a lithium battery in those remotes...

I would replace the OEM battery with a lithium cell... they last about 7-10 years... in older fobs... I would expect about half of that in a newer one

Many factors are in play here - length of time in use, how often it is used, temperature conditions and how "fresh" was the battery when it was installed. I think most of our cars use batteries that can easily be replaced at many stores so it is no big deal when they "die".

Battery life will ultimately depend on how much you use it.

You could set the option to allow all doors to be unlocked with a single press of the unlock button. This would avoid you having to press it twice to unlock the other doors. Use the buttons on the front doors to lock and use the unlock by just grabbing the handle - though still using some power from the keyfob, I'm sure the pressing a button on it uses more power comparatively.
