Center Console Removal DIY

CAUTION: Do this at your own risk. If you don't feel confident, seek professional help or ask your friend to do it and blame them if they break something.

Before you begin, make sure you have you engine off and have the parking brake engaged.

Begin by removing the shifter cover

Press down on the hole with the flathead and move the shifter into the neutral or drive position.

Locate the chrome trim on the shifter. You see two dots. Press right below it with one hand and pull down the chrome trim with the other hand.

This is the clip that you need to press down to slide the leather boot down.

Pop the plastic trim off the shifter to expose two screws. Unscrew them to lift the shifter up.

Now you can lift the center console out. I started from the center to create a gap and moved clockwise drone the cup holder.

Disconnect the three wires and rotate the clip holding the wire bundle together.

You are now free to lift the center console off.

Happy modding with whatever projects you are working on!

Holy crap! Thanks for that very informative info, but, I shall not be attempting this any time soon. :) But, thanks for the lesson!

Thanks for the write up! I’ve always wondered if removing the console gave access to the tiny light inside the box? I want to replace the light in there to an led but I didn’t want to risk snapping the cap off and not being able to put it back in

Yup, I already changed mine. It's a #74 size LED.

Is it the same for a 2013 RDX, thinking about covering mine in carbon fiber, just to dress it up a little.

I run my dashcam on USB. There is probably an easier 12V supply to tap into but this way would work as well to get into the cubby. Thanks!

Very late response to this and you probably already have your solution but I just picked up my '16 RDX and I got an install kit from TheDashCamStore.com. They have a cable from your device to the fuse box which has its OWN fuse and a slot for the fuse whose spot youre taking.

Have you ever taken out the whole center console before?
