windshield crack, now what?

Acura installs AGC AUTOMOTIVE windshields, in our area a cheap windshield replacement that costs $250, the same work, but with AGC AUTOMOTIVE windshield it costs $300. It's cheaper than paying $1000 for installation at a dealer.

Dealer does not do windshield installation anyway and use special service for this task. The only difference going to dealer will be if you want OEM windshield vs aftermarket one. Cheap aftermarket windshield may have some distortion. Do research on different brands. I heard that Safelite windshields are equal to OEM.

What year is your car, and does it have any of the technology for auto braking and things of that nature? If you're driving something like I do where it's a 2013 and does not have all the newer technology on the windshield, then it would not be the end of the world if it's not quite OEM. I would try looking for local places nearby and seeing how much they would charge to do it.

Right. I had some minor repair/restoration to mine ('14 Tech) at the dealer, and they did indeed use a third party on-site. However, in a previous vehicle, a Hyundai, Safelite installed one that I later noticed had some distortion at some angles. They did take care of it with a replacement after I complained. Learned my lesson to check it very carefully before accepting. Also, in Florida state law mandates replacement with no deductible or insurance impact. Not sure what other states are similar.

Over the years have replaced at least half a dozen windshields, to include our 2013 RDX. None have been performed by automotive dealers, and aside from maybe being less sound proof, have seen no difference in the windshields. Our 2013 had no newer tech, but the windshield repair companies, like Safelite, can perform that role too - just ask.
