Why did you choose to buy the RDX?
 

There's no perfect car for everyone. I'm just curious why people chose to buy the RDX.

Ended up going with RDX because the residual is high (I leased obv.) and I wanted to make sure I could get out of it before the end of the 39 months. Trade in is ridiculous on these things, as they hold value so well. Should be able to get out at the 2 year mark, barring any uncontrollable circumstances.

My first honda I purchased in 2007 (CRV), proved to me to be the absolute best car maker in the world.Going forward, I will only purchase a Honda/Acura - they are built to last!....love my new 2017 RDX!

So I have not purchased a RDX, but I am looking hard at doing so in 2017. What is drawing me to this vehicle:

• I have owned several Honda's previosuly my favorite being a 2004 Pilot. All of those vehicles were amazingly reliable (i.e., they never left me walking), required minimal maintenance (oil changes, new tires, windshield wipers, etc.) and kept their value better than other cars I have owned. The Pilot was easily the best riding car I have owned and I am hoping that the RDX will be similar in this area.
• Speaking of the Pilot, they have grown a lot since I bought mine in 2004 and I don't need three rows of seating (just 2 comfortable rows) but I do want the ability to carry more "stuff" in my car than is possible with my current sedan or my wife's sedan.
• I want a vehicle with a V6 and AWD. My current car is a turbocharged 4 cylinder FWD sedan that puts out strong power, but is a little rough around the edges due to the torque curve of the engine at ~3000 RPM. Previous experience with V6's have been that they are much smoother than any turbocharged 4 I have driven or owned.
• I don't want a CVT. My wife has owned three Nissan's including her 2016 Maxima that all had CVT's. I just don't care for how a CVT feels or sounds and would prefer a more traditional automatic transmission.That said, I wouldn't mind if Acura added a couple of gears to their six speed option.

OK, that's my wish list and how I got to considering the RDX as a strong contender.

Wish I'd also checked the 6 cylinder engine. Initially I thought we could only select one item. Just for the record. One more vote for the 6 cylinder.

This is what I posted in the RDX forum on VTEC.net on why we chose the RDX. After a month with the RDX, our second, it's just a better car.

1. The '18s are too far out plus those ugly rumors of a turbo 4. We couldn't take the TLX to Canada again next summer because that would have put us way over the lease limit.
2. We appreciate the smoothness of the V6 and the 6-speed.
3. Like Goldilocks, the three bears and the porridge: Not too big, not too small, just right.
4. The new CR-V, well, it sure looks nice but it's still a CR-V. Sorry CR-V fans.
5. German cars? I wanted to look at the MB GLC but the price was getting up there for everything the RDX had. Plus it was German.
6. Infiniti, non-starter
7. Nissan Murano. Just didn't feel right. Plus the CVT. Plus that weird leather toupee sitting atop the instrument cluster.
8. Lexus RX and NX ugly inside and out plus the Corolla cruise control stalk.
9. Lincoln MKC. Too Lincolny. Drove one and appreciated the luxury features but would not enjoy it long-haul. Plus resale value. Same for the MKX.
10. Buick Envision. The newest issue of Motor Trend pretty much destroys any thoughts about actually owning one.
11. My son needed to get rid of the '08 BMW 328i quickly so this was a god time to move, especially with year-end incentives.

Done. We both know we made the right decision.

Do you have access to Motor Trend, or motortrend.com? It's great for the Chinese where the owner rides in the back seat. Quality of materials, ride, handling, power or effort put forward, nothing really clicked for the testers. I'd say they slammed it in the politest possible terms. Basically everything on the market in that class seemed to be better. Pretty face and comfy seats, though. I can't remember everything but it was timely enough that we didn't bother with a test drive. It turns out my wife was humoring me to let me consider other cars when she knew there was only one choice. Hate to say it but she was right.

It's great for the Chinese where the owner rides in the back seat. Quality of materials, ride, handling, power or effort put forward,nothing really clicked for the testers. Basically everything on the market in that class seemed to be better. Pretty face and comfy seats, though. I can't remember everything but it was timely enough that we didn't bother with a test drive. It turns out my wife was humoring me to let me consider other cars when she knew there was only one choice. Hate to say it but she was right.

To clarify on #11, my son bought the '13 RDX with family discount. We had planned on keeping it for many years but, you know, family first.

Funny story, I bought our 14 RDX Tech, AWD by accident.

Back in October 2013 I was looking to get rid of my 07 RL. The SH-AWD was the only good thing in the RL. It was in the shop almost every month and there was an annoying vibration I couldn't get rid of. Since it was in the shop so much, I had the opportunity to literally "test drive" the while Acura line up from my loaners... Multiple times. The RDX was the only car I thought was worth pursuing, depite the lack of SH-AWD.

I went into a dealer to see how much they'll give me for the RL and as a part of the process, they asked ne what car I was interested (a numbers game they play often). I played along and said the RDX.

Long story short, they low-balled me on the trade (of course) and didn't move much from the MSRP on the RDX. About 30 minutes of back and forth with the sales guy, he brought over his sales manager, and in the heat of the competitive debate, I ended up convincing him to give me what I wanted on the trade and $1,000 below INVOICE on the RDX. I was very surprised he took the deal.

Thus far, the RDX has been solid. I did have some errors recently that was covered under the warranty. Other than that, a new set of tires and regular maintenance keeps the car running.

I wish I'd also added the V6 engine when I took the poll. I was thinking there must be a limit to the number of selections and hit return before did it. Any way to edit that one?

I traded in a Rav4 , Loving the V6 , 6 speed trans ...far more fun to drive.

Which gen Rav4 did you have? I considered a Rav4 but when you price out the top trim, it's pushing RDX territory (especially in Canada). What made you switch?

Wizard my Rav4 was a 2008, 2.5 l, 4 cylinder engine . Toyota dropped their V6 in the resign . I was not interested in a , turbo 4 , or a CVT .
As i approached 100k. miles {trouble free} on the Rav I felt it was a good time to move into the RDX . I have had it a month now with no regrets.

Wife wanted a CRV but I wanted her to have a V6 >> great SUV.

When car shopping I was looking for a small SUV that would be a good value and be mostly trouble free. I don't think any other brand does that as a whole better than Acura. I had owned two BMWs prior to getting my RDX and was burned with poor resale and sketchy reliability on each of them.. You will be hard pressed to find a better value in the compact luxury crossover market than the RDX. Powerful, efficient, roomy, excellent safety scores, and high residual value make it a smart choice.

I would have preferred a CRV due to options packaging and cost however having a V6 and regular 6 speed was higher on the list than the bells and whistles so that's what won out. Instead of a highly optioned CRV we have a base RDX. Wife puts 20k miles per year on the car and she is happy with it so I am happy also.

Right there with you. Sparking up the V6 makes such a nice growl. Love the 6-speed trans as well. So glad Acura didn't throw the POS 9-speed in the RDX. Yes, It is a fun SUV/CUV to drive.

If it weren't for the VW Diesel scandal and the very generous VW buy-back, I would not have bought my 2017 RDX. It cost me $3150 to own that VW for almost 4 years.

I missed the utility aspect of my 1999 Honda CR-V that I owned from new for 14 years. So I went back to a compact SUV.

I test drove a: Porsche Macan, BMW 328d Wagon, BMW X3, and Infinity Q50. Except for the last one, they were all turbos which I wanted to avoid, except in a diesel. The 1.5 turbo and CVT wrote off the new CR-V.

I don't drive enough to worry about fuel efficiency, so this is my first V6 and automatic in a daily driver.

The V6 is really the main reason for me.

...because I just got tired of looking and dealing with car dealers and sales BS? Actually I checked out, researched and test drove Lexus RX, BMW X3, Audi Q5, CR-V, Rav4, Highlander, and the TL and Infiniti G37 among sport sedans. I evaluated the Lexus NX200t but never took it for a spin. After about 3 months of shopping, on-and-off, I narrowed it down to the RDX or the X3, and obviously chose the RDX. I purchased a 2014 FWD w/ Tech last Sept 1, and am quite happy with my choice. I confess I did like the way the X3 drove, but thought maintenance costs, insurance costs, and resale would be inferior to the RDX. Plus, for a late model CPO the X3 would be at least 4K more than the RDX.

Considered Rav4, CRV and Outback Wagon. Pretty simple - wife liked the RDX the best.

Purchased the 2019 Advance in Majestic Black Pearl yesterday and was lucky enough that all of the accessories I wanted were already installed on the car.

Because wanted to upgrade from my RSX type-s, and i found a 2013 RDX Tech with 48,000 miles for $10k.

Honda acura s have a good reputation for quality. I needed an suv. Mdx is my dream one but cant afford it..so went to gis baby brother rdx..like the exterior look..interior space..interior look only on the all black trim..and of course i have the best of both worlds a family super sporty car..that engine is just good enough for me..and most important i pickd rdx bcause i wasnt going to get a 4 cilinder rav or crv not even tubo charge..i like v6 s power

The V6 is incredible and I agree with you on the looks, it looks incredible.

My wife wanted a CRV, so we found one with sound insulation and a volume dial. Actually she wanted Navigation and to get that you had to have an EX-L CRV.
The RDX was about the same price used. Turns out that the NAV was better in her old Honda, the NAV is stupid in the RDX, but getting a Tech was worth it for the sound system.

Yah the navigation on this generation's RDX's look like they're from 2006 but I enjoy how easy and simple they are to use. The graphics are good enough to be honest, and being able to equip a custom background photo is a nice touch for when I don't use the navigation.

Using a dial to enter an address when the damn thing has a touch screen is beyond stupid. Her 2010 Honda would bring up a keyboard on the Nav screen.
I also have an issue with the traffic feature. You have to pay for Acuralink for it to work? And the freeways are all shown in red? I have an Odyssey with the same or very similar system and it gets traffic from FM radio stations that broadcast that. But even then, I can only see the traffic if I actually have a destination active. It is helpful to find a house in the hills.

I'm not sure if I can even get Acuralink on my 2013. I don't rely on the navigation too much when it comes to traffic and all.

I had bought a 2016 Advance new in late 2015. Now I just picked up CPO 2018 Advance. Great powertrain, good V6, no BS transmission. Great all around SUV. Good suite of safety features.

Do you mind if I ask how much you paid for it? How many miles does it have? Color combo?

They definitely do. My 2013 is still worth a lot.

We bought our RDX because my wife had a couple friends that each have an RDX. Once she saw them she really like the exterior styling. So a couple days later we where looking at some used one. We wanted a 2017 or a 2018 with low mileage. She test drove a couple and really liked how it drove. We bought it in August 2020. There was a shortage in our area of low mileage RDX’s that for her criteria. The dealer said they where flying off their lots. She wanted an Elite trim, but there wasn’t any with low mileage. So we ended up with a Tech. We paid about $36,000 CAD. We do find the tech to be pretty archaic for such an expense car. The lack of parking sensors also annoyed my wife. But the pluses far outweigh the negatives.

I wish I had little things like parking sensors on mine, but the car is so great that I forget about it lmao.

That is fine as long as the rest of the vehicle meets quality standards or else I would have bought a vehicle from the big-three.

The one thing I miss is a heated steering wheel. Even the top of the line Elite does not have that.
