Use of non API synthetic motor oil

Anyone using these ( eg Amsoil signature series ). I have a new RDX and was thinking of using this oil but according to the manual use of non API certified oil may void the warranty. Anyone have a warranty violation issue using Amsoil?

If you're concerned about warranty and want to use Amsoil, stick to their XL or OE line.

Any reason why you're thinking of using SS?

Because it is a true synthetic derived from group 4 base oil not group 3 which are petroleum based oils.

would Acura even spend the money on testing the oil if something were to happen?

we know the 3.7l's and some 3.5's eat oil. are you confident enough that Acura wont press further if questioned?

Not to say that you will have problems...just a "what if" if you will.

Yes. But aside from that is there some other reason why you want to run SS? I mean, aside from doing extended OCI's or heavy driving, I don't see any other real benefit SS offers over XL or OE or another brand oil that's API certified.

It's not like the RDX (or any Honda for that matter) is hard on oil. There are plenty of UOA's that show that following the oil life monitor is perfectly fine and safe.

AZuser you are probably right. I'm going to use Mobil 1 EP or Amsoil XL. I plan on using an upgraded filter either the Mobil 1 EP or Wix XP. Do not care for the latest Honda choice of filters, the 02 version.

Actually they will. IF Acura finds a problem that is indicative of a certain mod then they WILL send that part (or fuel sample) to be analyzed.

The bigger question is why would you want to use an unapproved product when approved products are readily available, have a good reputation and are cheaper to boot.

Wait, I forgot. This way you get bragging rights about using a boutique oil. amSOIL and Royal Poopie have developed a loyal following of technically ignorant people who believe that the stuff is far better than OE, yet sell their cars well before any damage would show up even if you used maple syrup instead of oil..

Look up amSOIL on wiki. It is a pyramid scheme (MLM) based company that also sells nutritional supplements and liquid fertilizer. Are all three identical?

Not sure who you are responding to. I was trying to get information from an informed group.

Assuming that you do the maintenance regularly, lubrication caused failures are extremely rare. Accordingly, if you have a failure caused by a lubrication problem then you can bet your last dime that Acura will send out a fluid sample - after they've asked you to provide ALL of the maintenance records showing that you used approved fluids and parts at the right intervals.

If you have an oil problem then it IS your problem.

That's a feature, not a benefit.

What benefit do you expect to get; what do you expect to gain by using this oil?

Understood. I guess they would also have to prove that the issue was oil related as well. Thanks

Proof is a pretty squishy point.

If a dealership denies warranty service (and Acura agrees) then your remedy is to sue (probably in small claims court). At that point, the manufacturer will have sufficient smoke and mirrors to confuse the judge and you lose.

Why take that risk when the OE oil (or other oils that meet that spec) are proven to work without issue over 500k miles.

Agree. I'm going to use Mobil 1 EP or Amsoil XL although just about any name brand store bought synthetic will do the trick as well. Thanks
