USB folder issues in '16 RDX
I like to store and play music using a USB thumbdrive in my 2016 RDX Advance. I like to have several folders to organize my family's music (one folder for my son's music, another for my wife's, another one for Jazz music, etc.) Problem is, it seems that the car only sees up to 3 folders. Any folder beyond that simply doesn't show up when I cycle through them. Does Acura limit the number of folders we can have to 3? Or is it something else? Any workaround for this?
What's also weird is that the first folder is labeled starting with "02" instead of "01". The way the car organizes things appear completely opaque to me, and the manual is useless on this.

2. Make sure files are mp3
3. The 01 is reserved for root directory.

I had something different but similar with my 11 MDX using a USB stick. I was lazy and just copy/paste my iTunes music library on a Fat32 memory stick to leave in the MDX 24/7. I noticed the MDX did not keep the artist in the same order as in iTunes and songs in extra folders were scattered all over the menu (next to impossible to play anything other than random play).
What I figured out was the MDX was sorting the music by date the folders were created by iTunes. If I had an 2006 and 2016 folder date of the same artist from different albums, they would be on opposite ends of the MDX menu list. No option to sort/search the USB music other than tuning the knob and getting lucky.
I couldn't figure out a way to change the date of the existing folders (MDX would sort by date first then alphabetical). I ended up:
- Creating new folders with new dates (Prince, David Bowie, Bjork, etc...)
- Dumping all new and old music by that artist in that folder
- stripped away all meta-data related to the song other than the artist and song name (can't remember how I did this +2yrs ago)
Took freaking forever to do this to 36GB of music. Now every folder is titled by artist and every song they produced is contained within the folder. Something like this might work with the +16 Acura, not 100% sure. You can give it a try with 3-5 folders with a couple of songs each to see how the system see it before investing days like I did.
My in-laws 14 Rav4 USB stick option works exactly like you expect by keeping albums/playlist in the proper order, shows all metadata, and album art when songs are played. WTF Acura?

I noticed that the RDX did order the folders based on date creation like you said, and secondarily by alphabetical order. I guess I'll just play around with folders and filenames like you said. I'm not as brave as you and can't see myself stripping metadata on thousands of songs. I wish carmakers would take software seriously. Thnx.

I thought the RDX would automatically upload all CDs you played into the hard drive. Lately I've seen that only the first CD I payed is being played repeatedly. How to get the songs from other CDs that were supposedly recorded into hard drive??

I don't have an answer to your question, but on a related note, I wasn't referring to the auto CD rip function. I don't use it because the ripped music has a relatively crappy bitrate. I don't remember how low it was, but I know it was low enough that I thought I might as well stream thru bluetooth. The reason I use a USB thumbdrive and put it in the front USB port is so that I can use the highest bitrate AAC or MP3 files. Otherwise, what's the use of having the ELS system?

I put the music I want to hear on the hard drive. I put music that my wife wants on a USB (fat 32 format). The music is all mostly mp3 but a couple of mp4 songs. I put 500 on the USB, but the most I can get it to play is about 70. I split it into 3 folders (about 160-170 in each folder) and it will only show about 10 or 15 songs per folder instead of all that are on the folder. Does anyone have any suggestions for this? Thank you in advance.
