Thule Cargo and Hitch ?s
I just purchased a '14 RDX and I am looking for cargo options for trips. I am coming out of an '11 Pilot so I am losing space and moving down to a Class I 1 1/4" hitch. Thule has a hitch system called the Transporter Combi, but it says it requires at least a Class II receiver. I was curious if anyone has found a way to make this system work on the Class I hitch systems; I know the pin placement is different between Class I and II hitches, but read a couple of comments on websites that sell the Thule system that people had commented that they were using it on a Class I. Any insight/alternatives would be great; prefer to stay away from the car top carriers if possible.

You don't have to move down to a 1 1/4 receiver. There are several companies that make a 2" receivers for the RDX. If the hitch is already on the car, then they do make adapters that go from 1 1/4" to 2". They also make adapters to reduce from 2" to 1 1/4". I guess you biggest concern should tongue weight.

I suspect, but have not verified, that the Acura OE Class 1 hitch does not have the 'notch' to prevent a Class 2 attachment to fit. I did not see one last night when I looked. Maybe the receiver tube is just shorter?
I will verify tomorrow when our Class 2 drawbar comes in that has a 3500lb rating.
Also, Curt makes a Class 2 hitch. Different thread here:
