Silverstart ultra / xZe

Hello,

I was thinking of replacing the low beam light with either of the ultra or xZe. It seems like the DLR is shared with the high beam so the low beam in projection housing should be used only when it comes on. I do realize that the silverstar's life is short but if it gives 25% more light, it is worth it.
Is it easy to change the low beam bulb? Anyone knows the difference between ultra and xZe?

Thanks

Ultra's are brighter but not as white as xZe.

https://www.sylvania.com/en-us/produ...-products.aspx

I owned the Ultra's a few years back on my Honda Accord among a myraid of other "HID look" bulbs from PIAA.

The Ultra's are slightly brighter and slightly whiter than stock halogens. No experience with the zXe, but I'd guess they are whiter but not any brighter than stock halogens.

If I were you, I'd just get some H9 bulbs for a fraction of the price (same life span as silverstars). You'll need to file down the plastic connector to make it work.

Whenever these lamps(or similar) go on sale, the folks at SlickDeals have a very active discussion of just this topic. You could search on SlickDeals for the particular model or just 'replacement lamps', etc. They sometimes give a link to a very active BMW forum with lengthy discussions of output, lamp life, etc. Seems there is no free lunch, as they say, when it comes to higher output vs lamp life.

Are they white in DRL mode or still yellow?
