Oil Change alternative

Been busy. Did not feel like waiting a week to schedule an appointment for an oil change at the Acura dealer. Called up a Honda service department. Dropped off the car. Done in an hour. $45. 0w20 synthetic + OEM filter. The tech did a 20 point inspection. Told me to go to the Acura dealer to replace my battery under warranty (tested battery) and warned me about 2 nails in my passenger side rear tire. Great service. Just my .02.

I once asked a nearby Honda dealer if they would work on Acura vehicles. They said, in no uncertain terms, that they would not work on Acura vehicles. i suspect the reason for this is because there was an Acura dealership located literally across the street. Now, if there was no Acura dealership nearby, then I strongly believe their answer would have been different.

Every Honda dealer in the universe will do routine maintenance on the Acura on your dime, but they are not authorized to do warranty work except under extraordinary circumstances - like a breakdown with no Acura dealer in the area.

Taking my MDX to a Honda dealership with my extended 5/120,000 warranty was one of the questions I asked. Acura rep said no, only an Acura dealership will honor the Acura extended warranty. I'm glad my insurance/Acura will pay for towing since there is only one Acura dealership within 5 hours of my town.

So your MDX really had a breakdown within the warranty period? What was the problem if they found any?

The MDX was drive-able and the Acura dealership is closer to my house compared to the Honda locations. I do travel a lot and been from LA to Jacksonville, FL, in the last year in the MDX. Just don't like being in the middle of no-where if I can't used the Acura care warranty. So far no problems. Issues I've had that was covered 100% by Acura were:

- torn front endlink boot
- replaced front magnetic shocks
- firmware update for' check charging system' error
- replace driver 1 fob
- replace rear seat cup holder
- adjust HID level
- 6AT reflash
- replaced front passenger seat heater
- repaired front puddle lights

Actually, the Acura rep was partially wrong.

Acura requires you take the car to an Acura dealer for warranty (normal or extended) work BUT if no Acura dealer is available (5 hours away would most likely be considered unavailable, then a Honda dealer can request authorization to do "emergency repairs".
