Movin' on from the RDX

So my lease was up in a couple of months, so shopped around for my next ride. Looked at a whole slew of different vehicles, and in the end, found myself back at the Acura dealer. My biggest gripe with the '15 RDX was the AWD system, and specifically the lack of SH-AWD which my wife's TL has, and my previous '13 MDX had. Doesn't leave a lot of options out there...

Tail of the tape for my RDX was this. '15 RDX AWD Tech, 25k miles, Kona Coffee. Only visits to the dealer were for the airbag recall and a couple of the TSB's, plus oil changes and rear diff change. Always ran great, averaged 24 mpg across the overall lifespan. Nice car for sure....

So, Here's what I ended up with. '17 MDX SH-AWD Tech. Another lease. But I stretched the budget to make no compromises on features that I'd want. Goal is to buy it out at the end. I'm a happy boy right now :-)

Anyone need a set of mounted snow tires for a 2nd gen RDX? If you live in the NH area, hit me up for a decent deal on a lightly-used setup ready to bolt on....

Congratulations. Enjoy your new ride. I like the Fathom Blue color.

Congrats. I'm also thinking about getting a MDX but the hybrid version.

Congrats on the new ride!!

The MDX has the best programmed sh-awd compared to the sedans. I love the feeling when my MDX switches to rwd bias on steep inclines. I'm waiting to see what the 3rd Gen RDX looks like and I might end up going for a +17 MDX if all new RDX is just a fancy CR-V.

Curious, did you look at the Murano?

No, I didn't. I focused my search on the top-rated AWD systems since that was the reason I was moving out of the RDX. The best ones (based on my research) was the SH-AWD (and the Pilot's iVTM-4), the Subaru Symmetrical AWD, the new Ford AWD system, and Audi quattro AWD. I hated the way the Ford/Lincoln (Edge/MKX) drove and felt. The Audi was OK but a bit too "tight" for me (I'm a larger guy). The Subaru was good, but definitely not quiet nor luxury when driving. And perhaps the biggest disappointment for me was the Pilot. Our family had 2 pilots previously - an '04 EX-L and an '06 LX - both AWD - and they did well and were very comfortable. The latest Pilot design was essentially a minivan with an AWD system. What bugged me the most is that instead of a nice console with a center pad, it had 2 fold-down arm rests and a less useful console, and it was extremely uncomfortable. So it brought me back to the MDX. The cost was higher than I wanted to go, but got a decent lease deal from the dealer I've gone to since 1990. They've treated me well for a long time, so I threw my business to Acura and the dealer (Sunnyside in Nashua NH). So far after about 120 miles of all sorts of driving, my smile keeps getting bigger....

Good to hear.

I've been up there with a friend who asked me to help him pick up his RL and TL.... nice place, friendly folks.

We looked at the MDX as well, but I still have my 07, so we went with a 17 RDX.

Best of luck with yours.

Beauty!

Curious - what sort of monthly payment do you need to lease one of those?

The wife has had her 17 MDX Elite for just over a year now and we both really like it. Decently quick and it certainly handles and drives better then a big SUV should. Lots of room, comfy inside with lots of options. Really dont have anything to complain about. I almost wish the made an A-Spec version of it. Tighter suspension, maybe a little more aggressive styling inside and out. Id buy one lol.

Just in case anyone is interested in a decent CPO RDX in the NH/MASS area, here's the link to my old ride at the local dealer...

The MDX is an awesome vehicle, and I have had a few when my RDX was in for service, and had 2 in the past (2004 and 2006). That said, the RDX is just the right size for me (kids are gone), not to mention the MDX is far more expensive.
