Making the move from 08 TL-S to 2013 RDX Tech

Well...time has already come to give up the 08 TL-S.

I am test driving the RDX tomorrow to check it out.

Will go with a tech white with ebony.

As much as I am hating myself for giving up the 6MT, time has come for my family to have a pocket SUV in the ranks.

Question: in my negotiations , what are essential accessories?

I figure:
- rear cargo tray
- rear cargo cover
- all season floor mats

I believe cdn version already comes with front and rear splash guards.

This is my 3rd Rdx. I had 2 08s and hated both of them cuz of the jarring suspension. I am hoping the 2013 gives me similar or better suspension to a 07-08 TL base model.

The TL-S is pretty stiff but I had a few 07-08 TL base models and they rode so smooth.

Anyways, if things work out with sale of TL-S, I'll be in an RDX by end of April.

Acura604...Congrats on your potential move towards a 2014 RDX (or 2013). It is a nice vehicle and if you didn't like the ride of the first Gen and found it too jarring, there is no doubt you will like the second Gen. I have a 2012 TL (SH-AWD) and as much as I like driving the TL, I do find it occasionally tiring to drive as being a bit too twitchy. Depending of the mood I am in, I find that the RDX is just the right fit by offering a responsive drive, good seating position and a more "subdued" driving experience. Don't get me wrong, I love the TL, its just great to have the option of having both.

Keep us posted on how you make out and the black interior on white exterior is what I have too (both the RDX and TL)

I got my dealer to throw in full set of mats including the cargo area. I didn't have much more room for bargaining since they gave me over 2k off the MSRP and with 2% off of my Acura lease rate discount, I was pretty happy with the payments.
You will most likely going to miss the 6MT. I did when I switched from my Maxima to TL however commuting every day on 401 during rush hour traffic is not fun with the stick.
I am sure you understand if you commute anywhere near Vancouver.

went for a test drive... it was so refreshing to feel the soft 'accord-like' suspension of the RDX. Speed bumps were a bit rough on rear passengers but that's a given. Otherwise, I enjoyed the test drive and definitely will pursue.

I am not advertising my TL-S, just had someone off the local forums ask if i was selling so i figured...why not? The 6MT is an amazing machine but the functionality of the RDX is preferred.

I'm pretty much accustomed to everything in the RDX..the only 'unappealing' thing was the driver sideview mirror where it cuts off to show that wider angle thing? that distinct dividing line looked kinda dumb. I wasnt able to give the ELS stereo a good soundcheck but i'm guessing it'll be better than my 08 TL.

...was also great to hear that i qualify for acura loyalty rate that reduces the current rate by 2 points...taking it down to 0.9!

... will keep all of you posted ...

^^ Thanks for the update! You will appreciate the qualities of the RDX, it is not without fault but for most of us here, the list of positives clearly exceeds the negatives. The ELS is pretty darn good, and after I turned off the Dolby PLII, I like this sound even better. I need to find the person who suggested this and thank him, this has increased my listening pleasure for stereo sources.

...still in progress...

meeting the sales rep tomorrow to discuss the deal.

Question: Should i wait for the 2014s? they are approximately 2 weeks away.
i assume there will be a rate change... but 0 updates. OR, being the 2nd year of the
new design, perhaps they addressed some minor internal stuff that we dont even know about?

^^ I doubt that changes will be minimal or nil....The minor problems with the 2013 MY is likely still going to be present. One of the biggest annoyance has to do with the rear suspension thud but apparently, Acura Canada is aware and a solution will be annonced by the end of April or beginning of May. I agree that you will likely get a better deal/rate on a 2013 over a 2014 model, although inventory could be limited.

^^ Looks nice! Love the color *lol* I think the running board look really nice....never been a huge fan of the roof rail as I hate when I am waxing vehicles etc and for me, I have no use for them but that doesn't take away from the fact that this looks like a mighty fine set of wheels!!

I had both running boards and a roof rack on an Infiniti SUV that I had for years and traded in on my RDX. Total waste. If you have a real need for roof racks I guess I can understand but the running boards were not only useless but they would attract mud and slush and rub on your pants and shoes when getting in and out. Just a waste of money and metal. I hope nobody gets them because they think they look "cool" as they certainly don't when caked with gunk all winter. I bought the SUV decked out as a package and didn't have any idea about either of them at the time. I guess I actuall did think they looked kind of cool THEN. But after owning it for ten years and never once using the roof racks or actually stepping on the running boards except during washing, I vowed never to waste money on those thing again if given the choice. If one really likes them great, but weight the pros and cons before spending extra dough on them.

Question for those with the TL -- had one as a loaner recently, and liked the car, very nice overall. 2013 non-tech with low miles and presumably FWD. Very sporty, much stiffer suspension, much quicker through the turns. However, when really getting on the gas, displayed a ton of torque steer -- sort of disturbing coming from the RDX where this is never evident. Wondering how many FWD they sell -- given the 43K entry point, this would get old fast.

Geo,

I agree that the boards get full of muck and at times, I used to hit my shin on it or worse, slip on them.

But the new design has no step for front driver / passenger...just the rear and I'm ok with that.

Here's a pic of my old 08 RDX with all OEM options. The running board were a pain in the ass.

Scull, the 08 tl-s has ridiculous amount of torque steer ... It can get downright scary if I decide to push it from a stop.

I like the running boards although they may not be practical
Never had roof racks and never had a need for them either

geocord...You raised really good point about the running board. I never had any so I was not aware of the drawbacks associated with them. Being as anal as I am about keeping my vehicles clean, that is enough to deter me from getting them

Acura604....In my opinion, you had one of the finest first gen RDX! That was a gorgeous rig! I hate what they did to the RDX at their MMC.

i've 'nixed' this purchase... but will revisit in a few years.

i dont know what the competitive landscape will be in say 2015-6, but i cant see the competition beating the value the RDX presents.

i'll be back on this side of the forum in a few years folks... for now, y'all take care of them RDXs cuz i may buy your pre-owned!

Sorry to hear about the outcome...what made you reconsider? If you want a pristine White RDX with black interior next year, you can have mine. It will have low mileage and never driven in the rain/snow

well.. i'm a few years from owning my vehicle....until my current one which is being financed.

i've always leased
and i want to get to a point where i am payment-free for at least
a year. Then, i will use whatever equity in the car and either sell
privately/trade it towards another financed car.

i wanted to break the cycle of lease payments as i've been leasing
different cars since 1996....so when you think about it, i've had a car payment for
close to 20yrs.

I can see your point...it is an expensive habit but for me, I will always have a car payment. When the amount gets too high (or more than I want to pay), I'll just scale back on the type of vehicle I drive. I figure that with a car, you are always paying something anyway. Besides, life is short, I keep seeing people close to me having serious health issues and I don't want to deprive myself of one my biggest pleasure. It would be different if I couldn't afford it....Keep us posted and if you want to have a trip (fly) on the East Coast and then drive back a nearly brand new RDX or 4G TL across the country, let me know (lol)
