EZpass mounting

How are people mounting their easy pass/smart tag transponder? There is a rough sun shield in the area where it is supposed to be mounted. Only choice seems to be below that area or beside it.

I mounted mine just below that area, just to the left of the rear view mirror center (that way I would not be looking at the sticker all the time).

I have mine mounted on a suction cup bracket. Stick it on the windshield only when I need to have it, then it sits in glove box remainder of the time.

Up high in the tinted area behind the rear view mirror works just fine for me.

The tinted area is a non-smooth surface. Did you mount it with Velcro and, if so, does it stick to that surface without hurting it?

place it in an area where it is smooth.

the ez pass is a RFID transponder. in theory; it should work any where on your windshield.

Ive placed mine, under the strip; butt, in retrospect, I should have placed it in the tinted area.

I believe it is supposed to be shielded only when you place it inside the aluminum foil packet provided (in case you don't want to use it). Otherwise it should be fine anywhere on windshield (tinted or not).

I placed mine centered below the rough area you are talking about jbernardk. I agree it will work in the tinted area as it did in my previous vehicle. Putting it where I did hides it behind the rear view mirror for me (the driver), but you can definitely see it through the window while standing in front of the vehicle.

I used the mounting strips that came with the EZ Pass. No problems.

Request the front license plate mounted one, put it behind your grille. Those things are hideous in the windshield. On my last car it was behind the grille, on my TL it's in the bumper grille.

Interesting.........Is it a different model or look any different than the one that gets mounted on the windshield? It's been a long time since I opened up our account so I'm not up to date on what's available. Obviously it stands up to the additional wear and tear being exposed to the elements??

Did a quick google image search, it's meant to go on top of a front license plate, I used double stick tape inside my bumper. Not sure if the regular EZ pass is waterproof, it didn't cost any extra, just had to request it over the regular one when I ordered a second unit.

How it's supposed to be mounted

Less ugly way to mount it

Appreciate it. I'm not going to proactively go out and replace what I have but when the time comes, I will look into these.

I don't know why people tend to mount it near the mirror because that is such a prominent location your eyes see it every time you get in the call. I mounted mine in the top left edge of the windshield as high and left as you can get it. In that spot it is really out of site from both inside and outside since it's in the sunshade area of the windshield. No right or wrong location but that's my two cents and the reason we are all here.

I put mine in here and stuck it to the windshield in the tint strip area behind my rearview mirror.

I have my whole windshield tinted at 50% and the tint covers the oem dot matrix behind my rear view mirror, so the ez pass mount was no issue with the suction cup. I purchased that mount two years ago. Just search amazon for "EZ pass holder" if you want one similar

From the DRIVER'S perspective if you mount it behind the mirror on the right side, it is practically in a blind spot due to the mirror (you can hardly see it, unless you crane your head) and it leaves windscreen fully clear. Of course this changes if you consider the passenger's view. I would think the driver's view should have priority over others, and therefore the recommendation by EZ pass to mount on that location behind the mirror.
Now if the location on the left side works for you, great. Not everyone thinks alike. And you're right, there's no right or wrong about it. Cheers.
