Check engine lights on after mass airflow sensor cleaning

Just wanted to share my experience with fellow RDX owners! All kinds of check engine lights turned on after MAF sensor cleaning including emission system, AWD, lane departure warning etc. It turned out that I forgot to reconnect the wire on the MAF sensor. The CELs stayed on after I reconnected the wire. As a last result, I disconnected the battery cable, and reconnected back after 20 minutes or so. It worked. All the CELs gone now. I had similar thing happened in my Toyotas, the code will disappear with no need of disconnecting battery.

Just for the future, before disconnecting critical things like the MAF or Throttle Body, you need to put the car to sleep or disconnect the battery.

Was your MAF actually dirty in the first place? I pulled mine and it looked brand new for having nearly 100k on it.

Why? There is no power when you take the MAF sensor out and spray with MAF sensor cleaner. I usually let it sit for 20 minutes or so before I put it back in.

It is not dirty with only 31k miles on it. I did it after I replaced the engine air filter. It is the first time for this vehicle.

If your Check Engine light comes on after disconnecting the sensor, it means that the sensor was powered when you disconnected it.

Maybe. I will disconnect the battery cable from now on.
