They have GPS's pretty big now, but I don't want it to obstruct the view.

The GPS market is alive and well. Phone based systems work poorly when the cell signal drops.

Here are two mounting solutions

Sort of alive and well. Sales are way down. I was considering a GPS unit and discovered that Garmin has recently discontinued their top-flight and most highly rated unit, the nüvi® 3597LMTHD.

My iPhone has a grippy case so I just lay it against the display screen and it stays put. Of course I have to put up with the loss of signal issue, but the price is right.

I have the 3597 and think it's the best ever. You say it's discontinued, but still shows on their website as Prestige line flagship available for purchase.

I have mine mounted using the Proclip glove box mount someone else aready mentioned above. Perfect location, no obstruction, no drill, easy to use. You can see several photos here: http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/...psf685e16b.jpg

Glad to know you like it so much. Thinking about getting one from e-Bay. You can still find them at various resellers. But you will notice it is the only model on the Garmin website that you cannot add to the shopping cart. Only allows you to search for potential resellers. I did read something official at some point. Amazon actually notes it:

Amazon.com: Garmin nüvi 3597LMTHD 5-Inch Portable Bluetooth Vehicle GPS with Lifetime Maps and HD Traffic (Discontinued by Manufacturer): GPS & Navigation Amazon.com: Garmin nüvi 3597LMTHD 5-Inch Portable Bluetooth Vehicle GPS with Lifetime Maps and HD Traffic (Discontinued by Manufacturer): GPS & Navigation

I use the 6" Tomtom and mount it on the left bottom of the window, almost at an angle. Barely blocks any view, automatically turns on/off with the car and easy hand reach. The traffic is not as good as google maps.
Robot Check Robot Check

I have always wanted to install a tablet...
