Acura Care buying experiences

I know there is a thread for overall purchase experience, but I wanted to open one specifically for the extended warranty (a thread like this exists on the TL forum so....) anyway.

I bought my last acura almost 9 years ago (2005 TL) so obviously prices have changed between now and then. I believe I paid $900 for a 7/100k warranty then, but from what I can tell people are paying anywhere from 1100 to 1500 depending on the car and dealer pricing. Does this sound about right?

I also might purchase Olympicare since I have a family member that works for the parent company and he claims it is better than AC.

Oh, and the car I'll be picking up is a 2014 RDX Tech.

We have answered a few threads re: extended warranties and the consensus has been that they are an unnecessary expensive add on when buying an Acura.

I thoroughly disagree. Mine paid for itself easily.

I had window actuator problems, cracked engine mounts, cracked power steering hose (leaking fluid), rear view mirror broke (the oil/liquid that does the anti glare ruptured), and more that I can't remember.

All of that was beyond the 50k miles and my car is now 105k (the one I'm trading).

Agree with the gator. We have used them on 2 Acuras and both paid off. If nothing else, it removes any argument from the dealer. Of course, you have to plan to keep your car. Kept the TL 9 years and still have the MDX after 12 years. I plan to buy the 8/100K for the new RDX at Hyannis.

Maybe a mod can push the two threads together?

Sorry, I searched for "Acura care" in the thread title and didn't come up with it.

Thanks though for being a forum warrior.

If Amber would have stopped at "We have answered a few threads re: extended warranties", that may have been it., But adding the conclusion that they are not worthwhile asks for comments. Kind of a passive-aggressive approach.

To save some searching, the best deals are at Hyannis Honda, Bob Leab

Unless you live in California. As of 3 months ago Hyannis didn't sell warranties in Calif.

Yeah, certain states force you to buy in-state. Political pull of dealers is the reason no doubt.

We have a similar thing here in Colorado - you can only offset your trade-in for sales tax computation purposes if you trade it to the dealer. If you sell your car to a third party on the same day, you still pay sales tax on the full purchase price. In every other state I have lived in, you could offset in either case.

...so who does sell a good, cheap extended warranty in California? I did use mine in my 07 MDX at 70K for seat heater issues as well as the need for a replacement stereo that was draining juice. Can't recall who i got that thru tho, altho i do remember i did not get it via the dealer.

I guess I was not clear. Saccucci is in Rhode Island and they sell AcuraCare warranties online for Calif. You can get a quote online and then decide if you want to buy. Very reasonable.

re: passive aggressive

You're right. My bad. Thanks for calling me on it.

I did add the conclusion based on what I remembered of content in the past threads to be helpful because most people won't search or read links. I was trying to be helpful.

Since you were able to take advantage warranty go for it again. Did not have problems with my 06 tsx so extended warranty would have been a waste.

I will never buy an extended warranty for a new car again. I never used it and read horrendous reviews about the companies that facilitate them. The dealership gets a HUGE kickback. The paperwork from them has tons of strange terms and processes for even using it. Each state even has different processes and protections. The fianance manager pushes these HARD but don't budge.

After reading some about them I was able to cancel it and get a small refund on the unused time frame.

Take a look at the entire thread - the thread is discussing the warranties backed by Acura, not some third party. There is NO paperwork involved - just tell the Acura service dept to "fix it". That is actually the best part of the warranty. Also, no one is proposing that you buy these at your dealer.

The '06 above would still be under warranty for the 8 -year plan, so you can't yet say if it would pay off.

Well, apparently the new prices on Acuracare for 2014 RDX are completely insane. Dealer finance guy wanted $2900... Yes, that's correct. I told them to pound sand on that one.

However, my BIL works for a company that sells Olympicare and they were coming in at $1750. It covers the same thing as Acuracare but you get a $50 deductible per incident. This is the best I can find out it from another dealership webpage (Buick, not Acura, but same coverages basically).

I had no claims against my home, auto or life insurance last year. Still makes sense.

This thread is about pricing and buying experience, not efficacy. If you want to steer off-topic, then you need better ammo than one unconfirmed piece of anecdotal evidence.

Exactly. The forum isn't exactly bumping with activity right now so forum police and OT discussions can be left out, thanks.
