2016 rdx have takata airbags

honda has announce that the 2016 rdx have a faulty takata airbag located on the passenger side which can cause injury recall going into effect and honda said if you have concerns driving the car they would put you into a rental until new bags can be installed.

According to the source I read this morning, Honda still using Takata inflators in the CR-V, RDX and RLX. What in the world is Rockyboy going to say now?

Seriously. That idiot is starting to frustrate me and I am so sick of reading about him and seeing his bullshit posts.

Anyways, back to topic. Do you know if my 07 RDX is in the recall? Anywhere I can check?

I would say yes since you have an older model. Honda just stopped business with Takata this year. I would contact your local dealer.

Skip the dealer. Click on "search for recalls by VIN"

That will give you the answer.

As far as rocky is concerned, metal shrapnel flying about inside the car is an advanced feature not available in other luxury cars. Mercedes, Rolls, Bentley, Lexus and other very high end cars are lacking that feature.

As a note, Canadian cars aren't in the database, so that not finding them there doesn't mean that they are not affected. You can find information on Canadian cars here

An excerpt from cars.com on this issue:

Honda said three existing models — the 2016 Honda CR-V, 2016 Acura RDX and 2016 Acura RLX — have Takata inflators. The CR-V has one on the driver's-side airbag, while both Acura models have Takata passenger-side inflators.

The mere presence of a Takata airbag does not pose an issue. The problem comes from a (admittedly huge) batch of inflators with issues. While the name Takata is tainted, it never affected ALL Takata airbags.

A quick search of the links I provided should tell you if the RDX has AFFECTED Takata airbags. From the OP's message from the dealer, it appears as if they may.

I have checked into this carefully and to my knowledge there are no Takata-related recalls on the 1st Gen RDX. See http://owners.acura.com/service-main...TB18258A003017

So far ....

2002 Acura CL
2003 Acura CL
2002 Acura TL
2003 Acura TL
2003 Acura MDX
2004 Acura MDX
2005 Acura MDX
2006 Acura MDX

Had the driver side replaced in my wife's 2010 Element. Nothing so far on the S2000 - thank goodness, as I hate the thought of the dealership service guys tearing into it.

So just cl, tl MDX as listed above? No recall for RDX 1st or 2nd generations?
That would be great.
Replacing airbag is rare and I don't feel I can trust my dealer to do that. Just afraid they do more harms than goods. But then if my car is recalled then I have to do what I need to do regardless of my concern. So just hope mime is not in the list of recall.

Just plug your VIN into the safercar.gov website I linked to above and find out.

Thanks guys, looks like I am safe. The only recall on my RDX was something to do with factory installed hitches and poor welding jobs. I don't have a hitch thankfully, so no worries! I do NOT want a dealer going through my dash, I am certain this is a 2-4 hour job and the dealer isn't getting paid, no incentive to go slow and steady.

The driver's side is easy - pull the steering wheel and replace. The pax side is harder.

The dealer does get paid by Acura - just like any warranty work.

I meant the passenger side. The driver side is a breeze. Do they get paid a reduced rate from Acura?

They get the same rate as warranty at a pre-set book rate.

I'm just going to put this here: There were never issues with Takata airbags until there were...

So just because your car isn't listed [yet] and has Takata airbags, doesn't mean it can't suffer from the same issues. I mean... the list just keep growing and growing and growing...
