2013 RDX - Premium Fuel is RECOMMENDED not REQUIRED..........End of Discussion!!

First of all, apologies to anyone who finds the title offensive or in any way directed at them.

I am just tired of reading all these debates over type of fuel to use and most importantly the ugliness that starts to creep in those threads.

Can we put this information as part of sticky or something?

Thanks

I'm a firm believer in freedom of expression and would prefer that the moderators take care of the ugliness when it becomes a problem.
For the most part this forum is very civil but there is bit of trollery here and there.

I can see why you might get frustrated with threads like this, but it's largely Acura's fault. All the manual states is:

■ Fuel recommendation

Unleaded premium gasoline, pump octane number 91 or higher.

Use of lower octane gasoline can cause occasional metallic knocking noise in the engine and will result in decreased engine performance.
Use of gasoline with a pump octane less than 87 can lead to engine damage.
To most people, that translates to "Don't use anything other than Premium gasoline."

Some other mfr's say something like "Lower octane fuels may be used, but such use may result in reduced engine performance." And at least one mfr actually publishes different horsepower outputs for Premium and Regular gasoline.

So the Acura manual is vague on the subject, and its language is open to interpretation. What exactly are they trying to say? Why don't they just say it, instead of dancing around it? And maybe the biggest question of all .... What effect might this have on my warranty if something breaks?

And that's why the issue gets debated here on AZ. Owners are anxious to hear about other members' experience with lower-octane fuel, and to know what they've heard - from Acura and from others.

If you're satisfied with the discussion so far, you can just ignore this thread, but some will continue to probe to find out more.
