2017-18 NSX Stop Sale & Safety Recall Announcements
DATE: September 8, 2018
TO: All Acura Parts & Service Managers, Advisors, and Personnel
FROM: Brad Ortloff, Manager of Auto Campaigns and Recalls
RE: 2017-18 NSX Stop Sale & Safety Recall Announcements
On September 7, 2018, American Honda notified NHTSA of a safety recall and stop sale for all 2017 and a small number of 2018 NSX units due to fuel tanks that may leak at the crossover inlet pipe weld joint. Additionally, American Honda notified NHTSA of a safety recall and stop sale notification for some 2017 NSX units due to center high mount stop lights that may fail. Refer to your eResponsibility report or do an iN VIN inquiry status to determine which units in your inventory are affected.
Failure to repair a vehicle as necessary prior to sale may subject your dealership to claims or lawsuits.
PROBLEM
Fuel Tank: The joint between the crossover inlet pipe and the fuel tank may not have been properly welded, potentially leading to fuel leaks and increasing the risk of a fire in the presence of an ignition source.
Center High Mount Stop Light: The center high mount stop light assembly may develop a short circuit over time possibly causing the brake lights to become inoperative, illuminating dashboard warning lights and leaving the vehicle in a no-start condition, potentially increasing the risk of crash.
REPAIR
Fuel Tank: Affected vehicles will require replacement of the left and right fuel tanks.
Center High Mount Stop Light: Affected vehicles will require the replacement of the center high mount stop light assembly.
Note that repairs can only be made by NSX Authorized Dealers.
PARTS
Fuel Tank: Acura is currently working to procure repair kits to support this market action. A sufficient quantity to begin repairs is expected to be available by September 14, 2018.
Center High Mount Stop Light: Replacement center high mount stop lights and repair kits are available for dealer ordering.
TOOLS
Fuel Tank: Standard tools used to support this repair should already be in dealer inventory. Replacements are available via the Special Tools program.
Center High Mount Stop Light: Acura is currently working to procure drill bits and bit stops to support this repair. Tools are expected to be distributed to all dealers beginning on September 11, 2018.
SERVICE BULLETIN
Placeholder bulletins have been posted to the Service Information System as of today, September 8, 2018.
Revised service bulletins including parts, tools, warranty coding and repair procedures are expected to be posted by September 14, 2018.
CLIENT NOTIFICATION
Acura expects to complete initial client notification by early November 2018.
Please be on the lookout for a special message from Jon Ikeda regarding suggested customer handling techniques for vehicles affected by this recall.
As always, be sure to do an iN VIN inquiry status for all vehicles passing through your dealership to determine eligibility for any open campaigns.

•18-049: Safety Recall: High Mount Brake Light
Parts to support repairs covered by 18-050 and 18-053 are expected to be on hand and available for dealer ordering by September 14, 2018. Tools to support these repairs should be in dealer inventory, and are also available for ordering through the Special Tools program.
