Tranny recall question

I am looking to buy a 2001 3.2 CL type-s with a broken tranny. It only has like 50k and they want $3000 for the car. The car itself is in immaculate condition. I guess my question is can I take this car to Acura and have them fix it for free or do you have to buy the car from them in order to qualify. I really want this car but I am wondering if it's worth it. Will the recall cover my tranny even if I bought the car privately? What are my options? I would appreciate any suggestions.

get the VIN and call your local acura dealer and ask them 2 things

In service date
is the car flagged for any reason?

if the in service date was less than 7 years 9 months ago then car us under warranty
and
if the car has not been flagged as non warrantable

then you are good just take the car to them and get the trans replaced

Got to ask you why the private seller isn't taking it to Acura to get it fixed? That's a red flag.

Not sure. He said Honda was going to charge him $2,500. Even if I had to pay wouldn't it be worth it for a 2001 type s with only 50k? Anyone ever done a 6 speed conversion?

Too much $ & time for a conversion.
So then the car must not be covered. I'd walk away from it.

if the tansmission is broken then u cant even test drive the car so who knows what else is wrong with it. If the owner were to put in the 2500$ to get a new tranny, with only 50k on the car he would be able to sell it for a fair bit more then 5500$, so something doesnt add up
