Tranny problem for 2001 CLS

This is my first post but I have been reading th epost since I started car shopping in 2001. This forum is very helpful!

I am not a car person but I notice something recently and I don't know if it is the indication that my tranny is bad. When I try to park in a slope (I am in Bay Area), even when I am in gear R or D, my car will go downhill like a manual car in neutral. It can only hold its position when I am in gear 1>2. It didn't happen a month ago.

I know there are many posts for the tranny but I didn't see anyhting actually can tell me what to look for a bad tranny.

Is my tranny gone? Please advise.

^ that is a useless suggestion. I have yet to hear of a tranny problem with his specific issues.

Chopper, it rolls downhill pretty quickly, almost like when you are in N. I let it ran forward downhill for couple second once when in R and it killed the engine.
