Hi, I have a 99 TL with a failing transmission, I'm trying to figure out if the clutch pack is standard enough that there is already a kevlar one made that a tranny shop could purchase, or if it has to be custom made? I know certain places offer performance rebuilds but I couldn't find one in Los Angeles, and when I called a local transmission shop they said there are no upgraded parts available that they could use if they rebuild my tranny.

I don't want to get the same POS acura parts, so how is everyone else getting these upgraded parts for the rebuilds?

Well in case anyone else is wondering, I found this online:

It says it's for the RL but when you select a vehicle the only available vehicle is a 96-99 TL (I didn't know they had the same tranny, thought the 96's had a lot less power). They say they don't use OEM parts but rebuild it to better than manufacturer tolerances so I'm thinking maybe that would work? I found Dr Evil's site but I can't tell what transmission would go in a TL (it's supposed to be the AV6 one but I can't tell which that is from their site), but it's also a lot more expensive due to things like LSD and all that, which I don't really need.

All I want is a transmission that can handle 225HP, which apparently is just too much to ask for...

haha you are one of the many looking for one....they have new transmissions you can buy that are from 3-5K....

Where can I buy new ones? You mean new as in aftermarket, not new as in "new POS from acura", right?

NEW as in Aftermarket...they were made my Dr. Evil or something like that...and i think they were 4speed...
