spilled drink into shifter?

i recently went to acura because my transmission was acting funny (flares in shifting, always shows first gear light on, check engine light on) thinking it was due for another tranny seeing as this would probably be the second time it would be replaced and was told that the cause of my problems was not the tranny but that i spilled pop or soemthing into the gear shifter and i need it cleaned up and replace a part called the "gear select bracket detent" (54200-S0K-A92) which is gonna cost me C$280 installed
ontop of the C$150 i paid for just inspecting the problem of the transmission? does this sound right to you guys? i am getting this gut feeling that this dealership is scamming me because it drives exactly like it did when i had to get the transmission replaced the first time? any input from someone else would be appreciated.
