Question Replacement tranny warranty transferable?

I'm shopping for a used car, and this forum has been fantastic! I'm somehow more hesitant to buy an '03 TL/CL and at the same time, more willing to, now that I understand the tranny issue.

I haven't seen this specific question answered, so here goes. Long story short:

Does the 3 year/36,000 warranty for the replacement trannies transfer to a new owner?

Longer situation:

I'm thinking of buying a 2003 CL Type-S with around 97,000 miles. Black Pearl, in case you're wondering, haha. The tranny was replaced by one of the previous owners at 85,000 miles on 9/1/2009. The VIN is outside the recall, so I assume that owner footed a good portion of the bill. Poor chump.

I called the dealership that did the tranny and they said that the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty on it was transferable to me, and that all I'd have to do is change the Honda tranny oil sometime next year.

HOWEVER, I then called Acura Customer Service, and after keeping me on hold for a good 15 minutes, they came back with the answer that, NO, the corporate policy was that the warranty was not transferable and could only be used by the owner that had the tranny replaced.

Called back the dealership, and they were surprised. Said they'd check with the district manager who'll be back late next week.

So, who's right?

Has anyone had any experience with transferring warranties on the replacement trannies?

Worst-case-scenario, of course, is I buy the car, then the tranny blows in a week and I'm stuck having to pay for replacing it with an Odessey trans. And from reading the forums, I know that's a distinct possibility.

Called a couple of other dealerships and they confirmed that the warranty probably would not transfer.

Has anyone had luck getting Acura to at least cover the parts (if I'm willing to pay for labor)? Any experience with the tranny going after having been replaced by the previous owner?

Well, I decided to buy the car anyway. Am I dumb or what? Haha.

I'm sorry to hear that's Acura's position, as I'm in the same boat. Had no idea warranty on a tranny was so low. Aren't transmissions supposed to last the life of the car?

Also sorry you got no replies here.

I'm wondering if you've had any problems. Like you, I bought a CL w/ a lot of miles on it and one tranny rebuild in it history and am regretting it now. Will never buy another Acura.

It would seem fair that the transmission itself is under warranty no matter how many times the ownership changed hands.

Guess that's why I'm not employed by HOA to manage their warranty program!

Only the original warranty is able to be passed from owner to owner. Extended warranty may or may not be and might require a fee. Acura will typically transfer extended warranty to new owner if it was originally bought through them

Any warranty offered on work they do while you are in possession of the car is valid for you only. The next owner is out of luck.... typical is 12mo 12K for repair work and and the trans is 36k and some other parts like ALT
