How to Fuck the Tranny

Alright guys, as my 5AT approaches the dreaded 100k mile mark (actually I'm 35k miles away from it)... I'm wondering. How do I fuck up my tranny?

Can someone write me a tutorial on the worst things to do to our trannies to make em fuck up like everyone else's?

I don't wanna have my tranny die at 101k and have to dish out 5 grand, so if by 95k my tranny doesn't go, I'm going to spend 5k miles trying to fuck it up, which sounds like fun, but is still a pain in the ass. I'm still on my first tranny, and that bitch slips sometimes... it's jerked me around a bit (nothing serious though), but Acura denies that it's their tranny at fault.

I'm thinking SS mode, and do the 2nd-3rd shift as much as possible? Any other ideas? Maybe rev in neutral while moving and drop the car to D3?

Thanks, and I thought about why I'm trying to do this, and it's because I paid good money for my car and expected Honda reliability from everything, not just the engine (which more than lives up to the expectations). So American Honda can give me a new tranny or I can get one out of em. Lets see how it goes.

Just playing, haha, but for serious, I need answers! Also, as liquid_x said, dealer might be able to tell. I need it to look like the tranny screwed up like it normally does, i.e. 2-3 shift from what little I know.

I remember someone saying that if you torque brake the engine and trans. it wouldn't last 10 minutes before the trans. frys. I believe it was an Acura tech.

TC overload per Helms or 2-3 shift over and over uphill

It says right in the manual NOT to do that...

So, if you want to burn the torque converter up, that should do it.

"“Stall Speed Test.”

It says:

Engage the parking brake

Connect a tach…

Make sure the A/C switch is OFF.

After the engine has warmed up to normal operating temperatures the radiator fan comes on, shift to 2 position.

Fully press the brake pedal, accelerate for 6 to 8 seconds, and note the engine speed.

Do not move the shift lever while raising engine speed.

Allow TWO minutes for cooling, then repeat the test in D5, 1, and R positions.

Please note that it says 6 to 8 seconds and it also says allow 2 minutes between tests for cooling.

If you looking to overheat the tranny's torque converter, that will do it (especially if repeated).

Also, if you want to mess-up the tranny, you can find a nice uphill stretch out in the wilderness and just keep shifting from 2nd to 3rd (this will take a bit longer and you'll have to be relentless -- and be sure to have a tow truck around).

While in neutral, take the car up to 4500 rpm, and drop it in D5.

Disclaimer: This is a novelty suggestion.

i would be really careful posting stuff like this here. you don't want to end up like that WRX owner that posted how he was lying to his dealer to get his engine replaced that he blew up with NOS. Turned out someone on the forum called his dealer and ratted on him LOL.

just trade the car in for something with less miles... do not try and scam a tranny from your dealer/ACURA.....

Are you still on your original tranny?

I blew two trannies... one in 20 000 miles and second 8000

I used the manumatic a lot... that's it.

the second one... i blew it on a hot day... racing on the highway and downshifting a lot from 4 to 3 at 5000rpm... the trans opened from the bottom and all the trans fluid sprayed the porsche right behind me.

but the thing is... if you try to do it on purpose you'll just damage it a bit and it will blow at 110 miles.

me, i changed for a cls6

good luck

keep us posted on your tranny blowing activities

This thread is SAD.

I think it’s amazing how everyone always says that the Tranny’s die from “everyday driving” and nobody runs them hard.
Then we have a thread like this and everyone is full of ideas on how to kill them.

Yes, I admit that they have a design problem that causes premature failure, but you guys aren’t the innocent angels behind the wheel that you so often say you are.

I believe it was said in one thread that the dealers do not open up tranny cases. They simply swap them out, and shit the bad ones somewhere.

I say get another car or another CLS with lower miles. You're luck will run out, and the brand spanking new tranny will pop right after 100K.

I believe this is the most idiotic thread posted. Why would someone want to fuck up their tranny when its working properly to this point in time. Anyway the dealer would know if the tranny was abused or not, specially when your engagement rings are missing teeth off them from dropping from neutral to D5 or even over revving the car in the SS mode.

if you are that worried about it then trade the car in when you hit 100k because even if you get a new tranny the warranty is only good for 1 year or 12,000 miles, and with these trannies it will go again!

but if you really want to mess it up, you can try this

always drive in SS and try to keep the car in 2nd as much as possible. the tranny has a problem with the 2nd gear so if you shift it through 2nd a whole bunch it will probably go

if that does not work you could try this

take the car in to the dealership with 99,900 miles and tell them that the tranny is acting up. hopefully the tech will let you drive with him/her in the passanger seat and make it seem like the tranny is slipping or not shifting smoothly. ie let off the gas and floor it let off the gas, kinda make the ride as jerky as possible.

since everyones trannies are going to go and the dealerships replace so many of them they might take your word for it and just go ahead and swap it out...

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!!!???

Shawn, for once in your life try to be *objective*. EVERYONE knows the CL 5AT trannies are time bombs. Mine went with 1500 miles on my odometer. For ANYONE at this point to deny that these trannies are defective is just pure ****STUPIDITY*****. Acura never fixed the problem, and you people should be PISSED not apologetic. For someone trying to waste their tranny before 100k i say go for it!! Waste that shit!! The VERY least acura can do is replace your tranny with another shitass defective one that will last you another 1500-50k miles....

People with attitudes like Shawn's are why the tranny problem was never fixed. Pathetic.

Stay in 2nd to KEEP the tranny WORKING!

Actually, that is probably a good way of keeping the transmission alive. If you don't shift gears, the clutch packs are not being engaged and disengaged. The wear -- in the clutch packs -- happens during gear changes. If you never changed the gear, the clutch packs wouldn't ever wear out.

I've been using SS for that exact reason -- to keep the transmission from shifting in town. The downside is lowered gas mileage, and just to put things in perspective, most of the time the car never gets over 4K rpm. There is just too much traffic and congestion in my area.
