Bad experience on the highway..is my tranny dying?

Hey all...so today i was pulling onto the onramp of route 22 in allentown..wen i gave it gas the rpm's shot up to around 6k before catching at around 4k. I didnt like that but i shrugged it off and kept going. On my way back from my friends house a little while ago as soon as i pulled out of his lot the car started doing some wierd stuff. First wen i accelerate it basically revs like you'd think u were accidentally in neutral...but no it was in gear. btw i have a 2003 CL-p. Then all of a sudden it catches on its way down the rpm range at around 4k again and damnn it jerked. So i drove careful the whole way home and wen i was cruising at around 60 mph at 2k rpm...without warning the shit like downshifted into what i think was 1st because of how HARD it jerked...a downshift into 2nd wouldve been softer. But im scared to drive it. Also reverse doesn't work. WHAT DO I DOOO? should i get a new car? what will Acura service say? Oh, yea and my car just recently hit 50k miles. Helppp
Thanks,
Zoobs

Sounds like a tranny. They should probably replace it.

Actually, some 03 vins were not covered by the warrenty. But I believe there has never been a problem getting them replaced in the 03s since they know the problem wasn't fixed.

Yea my dad had actually gotten the 100k warrantee when we bought the car since we heard about the o1's and 02's. Even if they replace it, i don't know if i'd keep the car. I definitely want an 03 CL 6 speed if i can find one. How much would the value of the car change if the tranny gets replaced? Im seriously thinking of trading it in.

Call the Acura dealership and they should pay to have it towed to them.

It's not going to lose value because you replaced the tranny. BTW, most of the AT's in the 2nd Gen have a 100K warranty. It goes with the car, not something you purchase at the time of sale.

THe warrenty that Acura gave ONLY covered the trans. You could still get an Extended Warrenty which will cover more, even BUmper to Bumper for 7yr/100k .

The 2003s are covered now. We (the 2003 owners) got a snail mail notice. I had mine replaced about 6 months ago after Honda realized the problem was still there. The symptoms that the initial poster posted are EXACTLY what mine did before it died. Get you car to a deal ASAP if it already hasn't died on you. I have worried about my 2nd one too...once in a while it does nothing in 1st gear or 2nd...barely moving, other times it goes "too fast".

Signs that mine was dying last time: Shifted in automatic at funny points (you know your car and you know when it is "wrong"), eventually wouldn't stay in gear and would finally shift at odd RPM. Eventally "slammed" into gear, and finally stayed in neutral...never to move again (until they replaced everything).

A!

That's what I meant. I was only refering to the TRANNY extended warranty, not the one you have to pay for or the one you get when you buy certified pre-owend. Sorry, I should have clarified that a little better...
