97-01 3.0 A/Ts
I'm currently researching buying one of these cars, a 97 - 01 CL. I'm extremely concerned with the automatic transmission failures that the Acuras (and the Accords as well, apparently) are having.
This will be a 3rd car, but daily driven, so I can park my little turbo racecar and get some work done on that. I will be driving somewhere in the neighborhood of 50-60 miles daily, in Arizona, in the summer, in the 110 degree heat.
How likely, in your opinions, am I to have issues buying an AZ car with somewhere around 60-70k on it? I understand that Acura went ahead and extented the warranty on certain transmissions to 7 years / 100k, but after that, I don't want to be left hanging with my tail in the wind.
Has anyone re-built these transmissions with upgrades to fix these clutch pack issues? Or does it necessitate an entirely new transmission (I know manuals, I don't know A/Ts all that well). And how well, if at all, do these aftermarket transmission coolers do? Do they really help? I've done a bunch of searching (the search button is a wonderful thing), and the reviews all seemed mixed, but I don't seem to be seeing people with these transmission coolers on them replacing their transmissions.
Anyway, thanks in advance.

Just FYI ,,, I bought my 1997 3.0 CL brand new, made no modifications to it, and had it properly maintained by certified Acura technicians. At 60k the transmission went out. The warranty was not extended for the 1997 model year.
Good luck.
Good luck.
