Tires and Rims for my 2001 CL Type-S HELP!!

I am in the market to purchase tires and rims for my 2001 CLS. My car is bone stock right now. I am installing Tein S-TECH lowering springs so my car will be dropped 1.8 inches front and back. Now for the tricky part. I want 19 inch rims on the car after the 1.8 inch drop with NO fender rolling modification. Will a set of 19x8.5 with +38 offset rims fit and with what kind of tires? Could I put 19x10 in the rear and with what tires?? My concern is damaging car, wheels or tires with rubbing probs but I don't want to roll the fenders. Please help and Any advice is greatly appreciated all you guys are great!!

Here's my experience: I replaced the factory wheels w/ Motegi Racing MR237-FF7, 17 x 7, +42 offset. The tires are Continental 225/50-17 (10mm wider than +1 upgrade, .200 inch bigger than factory tire diameter wise). Car was not lowered at all. No fender rolling was done.

Each time I hit a bump (or large speed hump), or if the car was loaded with a trunk full of luggages with 4 average persons in the car, the rear tires will scrape the screw/washer combo that holds the fender lip (extension from the rear bumper). It also rubbed a portion of the plastic fender lip.

From looking straight down at the rear fender, the tire was sticking out of the fender lip about 3/16" to 1/4". I believe the culprit here is the +42 offset versus the +55 factory offset. Plus, going from 205/60-16 to 225/50-17 might have been too much wider than the car can handle (maybe I should have stuck with 215/50-17).

I would be cautious with tire diameter size larger than 25.7" & any offset less than +48 as this will offset the tires towards the outside of the fender lip.

Hope these numbers will give you an idea where your tire/wheel combo will end up.

Absolutely won't clear without rolling fenders and shaving tabs. Might as well roll the fenders and even then, 19/10 will require more body modification I would expect. I ran 19/8.5+40 with rolled fenders and shaved tabs and still rubbed. Now I'm 18/8.5+45 with same drop and its much better, barely rub.

Also for 19s, the optimal tire size is 235/35/19

Also why not roll fenders? Cheap job, looks fine, what concerns do you have? If not, you limit your options.

Those are like the TL rims Brandon. Might get minor rubbing in rear. None if you roll the rear fenders.

17's should be fine, just like stock. in my first suspension setup, I ran eibach with stock 17x7 wheels and I rubbed in rear slightly but after the fender roll it was fine and never rubbed. I would stick w/ stock tire size, unless others have feedback on this. I just know the optimal sizes for 18 and 19 to keep the odometer correct.

I asked a local shop about rolling my fenders and they said it would cost 380 bucks and run the risk of cracking my 13 year old paint. Any merrit to this?

holy crap that price is outrageous to roll fenders, keep looking. you can buy a fender roller for $150, just fyi. The shop I used charged me $100 to roll both rear wells and it only took a couple hours, 1 hour per wheel well or so. Yes there's merit to the paint cracking, but an experienced shop roller should be able to avoid any issues. Mine came out really clean.

see my thread linked in sig, give you some history on springs/coil setups used, wheel sizes, control arms, etc that's been done. I was on 19x8.5, now I'm 18x8.5.

no clue on how many inches lowered per se, with adjustable coils you can adjust to your liking (preferred over springs as you will read in my thread...), so I've lowered it as low as I can without it destroying the car

I am aware i am late on this but I have 20'' Staggered on my car. I am lowered on TEIN springs. i have my rear fenders rolled and slightly pulled to fit the 20x10's in the back slight rub over hard dips in the freeway. I have a 140 pound box holding my two 12'' subs in the trunk. Although i have 225/35/20 tires stretched on the 10'' not sure how you feel about that. But i plan on getting the rear fenders pulled more aggressively so i can fit a more suitable tire. My offsets are +35 all the way around. So is it do-able yes. But work will be involved to do it. To stand out and be different you have to pay to play. A lot of trial and error went into my set up but with some minor tweaks i should have a fully functional setup with no rub. So I'd say go for it. The price on doing your fenders is waaaaay over priced so continue looking around.. I only paid $25 per side for my roll and pull..

We (ronjonwheels.com) have PERFECT fitting wheels in 18", 19" and 20" that are not only offset (+48mm) to clear the fender and brakes but also hub centric (Acura specific 64.1mm), no fender rolling required, drop friendly and lightweight. Take a look:

19" Legacy 7:

20" Legacy Type II and Harrow:

19" front, 20" rear, custom finished Battleship Gray Gloss.
