Tein "coil slap"

as some of you know I installed my Tein basics on my CL-S last week. Just like with my H&R's there is quite a bit of clanking coming from the rear coils. I put on 3 sets of Tein rubber coil isolators on each of the tops of coils and then tried with 1 on the very bottom coil (anywhere that would touch easily) and the problem still isn't solved! WTF!!! Do i have to get extreme and line the entire coil w/rubber or what?

Well if its not working then try it. If it still doesnt solve the problems then it must be something else. It wouldnt hurt to do it.

I'll have to try another brand if I'm going to cover the entire coils....Tein charges $5/pair without shipping.

m733l : which bolt? I don't know if that would be the case for me? Same noise with the old H&R's and now w/the Teins. I also used air wrenches/impact sockets for the install....With closer inspection of the H&R's now that they're off of the car...there is ALOT of wear on some of the middle coils. Maybe I'll move the rubber isolators around and hopefully fix the prob. thanks.

Email from Tein: "Thank you for your inquiry. We believe you are inquiring about silencer rubbers for your kit, however these products are intended for use with our S.Tech and High.Tech lowering springs, as some applications utilize coils designed specifically for mounting the springs to the vehicle. However, the springs included with our coilover kits utilize a flat cut design for use with adjustable spring seats and would not require these components. If you are experiencing noise issues with your kit and would like to provide additional details regarding any problems you are encountering, we could assist in deciphering any potential areas of concern. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact us at your convenience."

Anyone think this could be the end links or something? It makes me wonder what the mechanic did when he installed the original h&r's....

If you dont want to pay for the silencers, you can go to radio shack and get some of that cable wrap. Its like a hard plastic and it has slits curling down so you can slips cables and stuff inside to protect and organize them. Well just wrap your springs with those and see if the noise goes away. If it does, you know what the problem is but the cable wrap is only a temp fix.

just go to home depot and get some rubber hose to slice and slide over the coil. this is very similar to what i've seen on coils.

Is it a loud metal-on-metal clunk when you go over moderate bumps?

Easy way to tell if its the endlinks (if youre running stock ones) is to pay $40 for a set of moog ones. They are much better in design, since they don't need an allen key and are much beefier looking. Stock ones are dogshit.

Yeah, it's a loud metal clunk......happens on both sides randomly...even when backing out of the driveway.

Today I wrapped the coils in rubber.....still clanking.....with a closer look it must be the loose sway bar end links. Good thing I have Moog's and a Progress Rear Sway coming!

I fixed mine today! For me it was loose sway bar end links.....the bolts were rusted on and I got them off with a plasma cutter! I also removed the sway bar since the new Progress RSB is coming in with the endlinks next week. No more clunking! I'm sure it was the endlinks...the sway bar bushings were fine and would'nt really make a metal on metal noise since they are surrounded w/rubber.

I'm pissed! My new rear sway endlinks are starting to make the same noise! What's the deal? I wonder if I should put lock-washers on the endlink bolts? Or weld them, haha!

It did at first, but now it's doing it again. I'm going to try a few things after work today. One thing I have noticed, though is that the upper ends of the endlink sits VERY VERY close to the struts, but I don't think that's it.
