Steps to refinish the stock Type-S rims?
What are the steps that a shop would take to refinish our stock Type-S rims? Do our rims have clearcoat on them? How long would the process take? Average cost?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm contacting a shop right now, and I'd like to be prepared before they try to bend me over...
(I tried searching before I posted )

you can do it yourself, it just takes a while...
you can get em all done in a week if you dedicate yourself to it...
they do have a clear coat on them, laquer thinner and aircraft stripper will take it right off...
you need a good metal polish wax also, i have some stuff called diamante, its from pureto rico, its the best stuff i ever used... im not too sure how much a shop will charge you though, sorry about that

if you look at the bottom left spoke you can see curbage also...
i didnt want to grind too far down because i didnt want to take a chance of throwing the wheel off balance....
how deep are the scratches that you have on your rims?

Three Wheelin'
Those look like chrome. I really want to find out how to do this also. My rims have some curb rashes on them, and I would like to find a way to make it look like new.

question... is there a DIY for getting rid of curb rash? like anything i can put on, just anyhting simple. i got a shitload of it from the previous owner and got it from a certified dealership. Didn't pay much attention to it but i think the dealership put something on the wheels to hide the rashes. any ideas?

the main things needed are
1. paint stripper/ aircraft stripper
2. 400 grit/800 grit/ and very fine sand paper
3. polish wax
4. grinder
5. and alot of elbow grease

How bad are your wheels? Is it just a little curb rash, or is it in really bad shape? Personally, I wouldn't bother if it's just a little. If they are really bad and leaking, check places like Wheels America or some place similar.
Props to you for doing it, but seems like way too much work to do.

609, what did you need the paint stripper for? Could you go into a little more detail about what you did?

I was thinking of taking very fine wet sandpaper (maybe 2000 grit?), and just filing down the curb rash. Then, covering the wheel in a polish wax... is that basically what needs to be done?
And can you recommend a polish wax product?

Paint stripper is to remove the clear from the rims, you have to make sure you take it all off or the rims, if not youll just be wasting your time...
i cant really recommend a polish wax, i tried "blue magic" and some other stuff but it doesnt shine like the "diamante wax" that i got from p.r
